ON THE OCCASION OF RAMANAND SAGAR'S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY:

Ramanand Sagar was a renowned Indian filmmaker, writer, and television producer best known for creating the iconic TV series “Ramayan” (1987–1988), which became one of the most-watched shows in Indian history. Born as Chandramouli Chopra in Lahore, he later adopted the name Ramanand Sagar. He began his career as a journalist and scriptwriter before moving into film direction and production. His work on Ramayan not only brought the epic to millions of households but also transformed Indian television culture. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2000 for his contribution to the arts.

January 1976: A year before Coca-Cola was famously pushed out of India, Industry Minister T.A. Pai announced that a homegrown substitute had been "evolved" by scientists in Mysore.
