Offering the fruit of our work and dedication to others can bring so much happiness. That is what we see in Erdene Zuu's preservation project manager, Lama Gongor, in this moment, as he offers a printed copy of Erdene Zuu's newest publication to Baatra Erdene-Ochir, a dear friend and fundamental collaborator of ALL in Mongolia, and Connie O'Brien, our much-beloved ALL Director of Global Engagement.

This publication was created in honor of the 440th Anniversary of Erdene Zuu Monastery, under the direction of Lama Gongor and with the support of ALL.

This is just one of the special moments shared during the most recent trip of the the ALL team made to Mongolia this summer. The very morning we arrived to the magnificent Erdene Zuu Monastery to install new equipment and provide additional support for the team, we were welcomed with a spirit of great joy and friendship. Our time with the Erdene Zuu project team further strengthened our dedication to working closely in partnership toward the preservation of Mongolia’s rich literary heritage.

Our thanks and admiration to our respected partner, Erdene Zuu Monastery, as they celebrate this 440th year and beyond!

Following the launch of Asian Legacy's LIbrary's partnership with Arvaikheer Monastery Library in Mongolia this June, we're excited to introduce the dedicated team bringing this preservation project to life.

Located in Övörkhangai Province, the library is home to a remarkable collection of rare manuscripts and woodblock prints. Following installation of digitization equipment by ALL this summer, the team has begin cataloging and digitizing the collection of more than 300 volumes, preserving them for future generations and making them openly available through Asian Legacy Library's public digital library.

We're honored to introduce the preservation project team: Project Manager Ganzaya Yagaan, Cataloguer Dashnyam Ayush, and Scanning Technician Purevgyal Sainjargal, who established the monastery's new digitization efforts after receiving training in cataloging and digitization from Baatra Erdene-Ochir, ALL's Mongolia Project Consultant, Travis DeTour, ALL's Digital Archive Engineer.

We're grateful to be working alongside such a wonderful team and look forward to sharing more updates as the digitization of this extraordinary collection continues!

In this new ALL video, ALL President John Brady reflects on the accomplishments of this summer's project work in Mongolia: "We did so much – setting up a complete project, having a remarkable, passionate group of people ready to do the project. The passion is there. The commitment is there."

John Brady, alongside key ALL team members, worked closely with our project teams to install preservation equipment, complete training, and support the continued success of scanning and cataloging initiatives.

Summer 2026 Key Accomplishments:

Zanabazar Library: Expanded digitization capacity with a new scanning station, prepared a dedicated project space, and prepared to expand the project team to include new members.

Erdene Zuu Library: Installed new scanning and processing stations to support ongoing digitization efforts, making possible even greater preservation outcomes.

Arvaikheer Library: Launched a new preservation project by establishing a complete scanning and processing workspace and beginning team training.

Reflecting on these partnerships, John shares, "Their generosity was beyond. Good relationships matter." This spirit of collaboration is at the heart of ALL's work with collection holders to protect and propagate key collections of wisdom.

Thank you to each and every ALL supporter whose generosity makes this work possible!

In this new ALL video, Holger Wolff reflects on the value of the Asian Legacy Library's work at Erdene Zuu Library in Mongolia, where we work alongside an amazing project team to digitally preserve a key collection of wisdom.
This summer, Holger and his wife, Kristen, traveled to Mongolia alongside ALL President John Brady and the ALL team as we delivered new equipment and provided training for project teams across three Mongolian libraries. These initiatives expand the capacity of our library partners to catalog, scan, and make accessible the wisdom held in Mongolian texts and libraries – a precious and urgent task.
Holger is the co-founder of MaibornWolff GmbH and serves on the Board of the Asian Classics Institute (ACI). He is a valued member of the Asian Legacy Library's global community: people around the world dedicated to sustaining ALL's work of safeguarding and transmitting authentic textual traditions for the benefit of all. Thank you for being part of the vision alongside Holger and all of us at ALL.

In this closing highlight clip between Commander John Foley and ALL's President John Brady, John Foley reflects on the work of Asian Legacy Library in Mongolia and in the world:

"To be in Mongolia with you, to go into the beautiful libraries, and to see the books and the teachings – what blows me away is, that's the physical part, but you all now are bringing that message, the wisdom, to the world, and you can feel it."

John applies his experience of the wonder of flying as a Blue Angel pilot to his impressions of ALL's work in the world; like taking flight, the work of preservation requires a belief in what's possible, a sense of trust and awareness, and most of all, a clear sense of purpose.

These results are only possible due to the kindness of our supporters around the world, including the Glad to Be Here Foundation. Preserving ancient wisdom in collaboration with partners around the world is a highly rewarding journey, and we are making it happening together. Thank you, John Brady and John Foley, for the example you set for your teams and students, and for this wonderful conversation!

Across the next weeks, we'll be sharing a series of highlights from an in-depth conversation between John Brady, President of Asian Legacy Library, and Commander John “Gucci” Foley, former Blue Angel lead solo pilot and founder of the Glad To Be Here Foundation.

In this episode, John and John reflect on the power of listening and sharing: two core values of the Asian Legacy Library's work as we partner with institutions around the world to preserve treasured collections of wisdom.

We celebrate leaders like John Brady and John Foley, who serve as a guiding example of how to bring about good with a sense of dedication, compassion, and curiosity. Stay tuned for the next video in this inspiring series from an unforgettable conversation.
