Appeal for participation in 'Shram Sanskaar Chhavani 2018'
Dear All,
My name is Dr. Sheetal Amte-Karajgi and I am the CEO of Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora, an organisation founded by Baba Amte in 1949. MSS is a nonprofit organization that has empowered over 2.7 million people afflicted with leprosy and other disabilities like hearing and speech impaired, visually, orthopedically challenged and even the socially backward tribal populace through sustained and effective psycho-socio-economic rehabilitation. Over the last six decades, MSS has grown rapidly to become an internationally renowned institution in the field of social work, housing the largest community of leprosy afflicted and people with disabilities in India and perhaps, in the world.
Every year we organise Shram Sanskaar Chhavani, an annual event that has pioneered various youth empowerment programs in India. This year too, the 51st Shram Sanskaar Chhavaniwill be organized at our Somnath and Anandwan Projects between 15th to 23rd May 2018. It has been an observed that out of ten social workers in Maharashtra, four have got inspired through our youth camp. Until today, we have inspired about 40,000 youth all over India and we plan to motivate 350 more this year.
Shram Sanskar Chhavani emphasizes the value of manual work by involving youth in various laborious yet joyful and most importantly, constructive tasks. This camp helps build a sense of positive work culture, secular values, national unity and environmental conservation and encourages scientific attitude among the youth. Some of these inspired youth have gone on to become institutions in themselves. Shram Sanskaar Chhavani has provided the foundation stone to many social workers in India.
In the morning, participants work in the fields by doing manual work such as making of bunds, laying approach roads to agricultural fields, removing weeds / shrubs, preparing wasteland for cultivation and plantation of saplings, etc. The day ends with discussions and group activities. Lectures of well-known professionals and social workers are held on topics such as secularism, national integration, water, energy, rural development, empowerment of rural populace as well as topics of current interest. The applications for this year's Shram Sanskaar Chhavani are open till 20th April 2018. We encourage you to participate in maximum strength to experience a change in yourself.
