The Embassy of the Republic of Suriname is honoured to announce that H.E. Ambassador Hanisha Jairam has presented her Letters of Credence to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, officially commencing her mission as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Suriname to the Republic of India.

For this significant occasion, Ambassador Jairam chose to wear a red saree, symbolising the shared cultural ties between Suriname and India, while also reflecting the meaning of the red in the Surinamese flag—love, progress, and sacrifice.

As we commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations, we look forward to further strengthening the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Suriname and India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the extension of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card eligibility for the Surinamese-Hindustani community from the 4th generation to the 6th generation.

This landmark decision honors our shared heritage, deep cultural roots, and the enduring legacy of the descendants of the Girmitiyas.

~ End of Tenure: Ambassador Hardien bids Farewell ~

After serving with dedication since August 2022, Ambassador Arunkoemar Hardien has concluded his tenure as Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname to India. His time in India marked a period of active diplomacy, meaningful engagement, and strengthened ties between Suriname 🇸🇷 and India 🇮🇳.

At the conclusion of his assignment, Ambassador Hardien completed the necessary formalities with Ms Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) at the Ministry of External Affairs, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in India, and the Coordinator of GRULAC, reflecting the cordial and respectful relationships built during his tenure.

A warm farewell event was also hosted by the Global Trade and Technology Council of India (GTTCI), with whom the Ambassador shared a close and personal relationship, underscoring the strong people-to-people and institutional connections fostered over the years.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ambassador Hardien described the period as highly productive, contributing significantly to the deepening and diversification of the bilateral relationship between Suriname and India. As he returns to Suriname, he carries with him lasting friendships and a firm belief in the continued growth of cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Arunkoemar Hardien had the honour of attending the launch of the Silver Jubilee year of the Brahma Kumaris Om Shanti Retreat Centre (ORC) in Gurugram.

Coinciding with the celebrations of Gita Jayanti, the Ambassador addressed the distinguished gathering and reflected on the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, whose teachings continue to inspire humanity towards righteous living, inner peace, and selfless action.

He also commended the BK organisation for its unwavering commitment to promoting spiritual values, world peace, and harmony, in line with the profound message of the Bhagavad Gita.
