Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) is focused on transforming Vijayawada into a green and one of the best ranked city with a host of facilities and amenities for its citizens.
Swaraj Maidan (PWD Grounds) in the heart of the city is an empty land currently used for holding occasional events. GoAP, through Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, intends to develop this 20 acre land as a large and iconic public utility project called “City Square” on similar lines of Trafalgar Square London or Central Park in New York.
City Square as the ‘Icon of Vijayawada’ is conceptualised to improve the liveability of the city by bringing in more greenery, open lung spaces and a place for the public leisure and entertainment. It is aimed at enhancing the brand value of Vijayawada and bring socio-economic benefits its people.
A vision for the future, a space for the benefit of the Public of Vijayawada. We intend to introduce the following to the Swaraj Maidan to develop it in to Vijayawada City Square with following components
1. Central Iconic Pillar surrounded by circular water body
2. Musical Fountain with Light and Sound Show
3. Cultural Gallery & Exhibition Center
4. Paved walking path along the periphery
5. Open Public Meeting space
6. Public Amphitheatre
7. Mini Theme Park, Indoor Stadium, Gaming Zone, Play Area
8. Variable Message Screen (Big LED Screen)
9. Food court, Cafeteria, Coffee Joints - Overground
10. Underground Parking – min 1200 car slots for 20 Acres
All internal trunk infrastructure and public utilities
A city for the people, that is the vision of the Government of Andhra Pradesh Vijayawada. It is this vision that is being brought to light by developing the empty area of Swaraj Maidan in to an iconic City Square that will become the pride of the people of Vijayawada.
A space where children can play, the elderly can stroll, where people come to relax and enjoy time with their family and friends. A place which is one with nature, reminds us of the good old times ,where open and green public spaces were plenty, yet being a modern marvel.
Given that the central theme of Vijayawada City Square is 'THE PEOPLE' the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are inviting the public to express their opinions on how to best to develop the City Square.
After many rounds of discussions, we have shortlisted 4 world-class designs for the City Square and would like THE PEOPLE of Vijayawada to vote on these designs.
