Filipino Nationals are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to Iraq particularly to Kurdistan due to the prevailing security situation in the region. The air space in Kurdistan, Iraq has particularly been subject to sudden closures, with often erratic schedule of flights.

Filipinos already in Iraq and in Kurdistan, Iraq are advised to monitor ongoing news, exercise caution and remain vigilant for their own safety and security. Filipino Nationals are advised to follow any emergency instructions that may be given by the local government authorities as applicable and to contact the Embassy Hotline (+964 783 700 5457) for emergencies. Iraq and Kurdistan remain at Alert Level 3 status. Kurdistan is a part of Iraq and is not a separate country.

*Philippine Embassy Iraq opens Philippine Dr. Jose Rizal Corner in Qaraqosh*

In line with the celebration of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Iraq opened the 4th Philippine Dr. Jose Rizal Corner on 21 June 2026 at Mar Paulos Center for Church Services in Qaraqosh Iraq.

The opening was led by H.E. Charlie Pacaña Manangan and Archbishop Benedectos Younan Hano of the Archdiocese of Mosul.

Mar Paulos Center for Church Services is a center of learning for Catholics in Iraq, where the Archdiocese conducts its cathechism and basic education classes. Qaraqosh is located in the Nineveh Governorate, and it is the largest Christian population center in the country.

The Philippine Corner was seeded with the first batch of books on Philippine history, culture, and literature. This will also be replicated in other universities and educational institutions in Iraq.

*Philippine Embassy Iraq celebrates Kalayaan 2026 with Filipino Community*

The Philippine Embassy in Iraq conducted Philippine Independence Day Celebrations in June with the Filipino Communities in Baghdad and Erbil.

Philippine Ambassador Charlie Pacaña Manangan led the separate events in Erbil and Baghdad on 19 June and 26 June, respectively.

In his message, Ambassador Manangan underscored the importance of freedom that shaped the Philippines’ identity as a nation.

Mr. Bassim Jabir Jamil Al-Dulaimi, a locally hired employee who has served for more than 20 years in the Embassy, was honored during the celebration in Baghdad after her was conferred with the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Award by the Department of Foreign Affairs. The Embassy also recognized the Filipino community leaders in the Kurdistan Region who have been active partners in Embassy’s programs and activities.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”.
