Just recently, the Strategic Airlift Capability's Heavy Airlift Wing hosted the European Air Transport Command’s Advanced Combined Air Terminal Training (ACATT) at Pápa Air Base, Hungary.
Bringing together more than 25 participants from 10 nations, ACATT strengthens interoperability and standardization in air terminal operations through common procedures and shared expertise.
While EATC delivered the training, the success of the event relied heavily on the support provided by our personnel and facilities. Throughout the two-week course, specialists from the Heavy Airlift Wing Logistics Support Squadron worked side by side with instructors and trainees, sharing their extensive operational knowledge, gained through years of multinational airlift operations.
Our modern infrastructure provided an ideal environment for realistic, hands-on training. Speaking the same professional language and applying common procedures alongside our international partners demonstrated the high level of professionalism that underpins effective multinational cooperation.
We are proud to have supported this important training.

NSPA leadership recently conducted an Executive Off-Site meeting at our home base in Pápa, Hungary, bringing together the Agency’s senior leaders to discuss strategic priorities and strengthen collaboration across the organization.
During the visit, the Executive Management Board had the opportunity to tour SAC facilities, meet with NAM PO and HAW personnel, and gain first-hand insight into the Strategic Airlift Capability mission supporting 12 member nations.
It was an honor to host Ms. Stacy Cummings, NSPA General Manager and Executive Management Board members in Pápa for this productive visit.

Every few months we run a full training week — one of the rare moments when our normally nonstop schedule brings the whole HAW team home at the same time.
All our specialists refresh critical skills to keep us sharp in every part of strategic airlift. One example from this last week: our loadmasters trained on manually locking the C‑17’s landing gear with a bolt from inside the aircraft — a last‑resort backup if hydraulics fail and the heavy moose still needs to land.

Today, the Strategic Airlift Capability family came together at our home base in Pápa, Hungary, for our SAC Family Picnic — an afternoon dedicated to celebrating partnership, camaraderie, and the strong bonds that unite our organizations and multinational community.

With participants from The Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), Nato Airlift Management Program (NAMP), Boeing, the Hungarian Defence Forces 47th Air Base, and the QSI School, the event highlighted the unique bond we share, bringing together 12 HAW nations (plus a couple more within NAMP) in the spirit of friendship and cooperation.

All could enjoy a variety of activities, including the US favourite co****le, target shooting, and football (the European version), offering fun for both children and adults alike.

Guests also embarked on a delicious culinary journey featuring traditional Hungarian pork knuckle, classic American grill favorites, and of course many youngsters favorite — ice cream!

The event sparked many good laughs and will for sure be in many of our minds to further inspire our everyday mission to do strategic airlift all over the globe, delivering where it matters the most in each moment for all our member nations.

While the Swedish Air Force is currently patrolling the skies over Iceland, the groundwork for this historic Swedish NATO mission began over a month ago in our cargo bay.
At the end of January, we completed the strategic lift phase of this deployment, hauling the critical equipment – including a spare engine – necessary to sustain Sweden’s first-ever NATO Air Policing lead. Logistics is often the "silent partner" in aviation, but like Dwight D. Eisenhower once said: "You will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics."
In total we shipped 69 metric tons of equipment and the majority of the 110 mission crew to the spellbinding country of Iceland.
As the air policing mission continues in the North Atlantic, we’re proud to have provided some of the backbone for this Swedish milestone!

While fulfilling the airlift requirements of our member nations, SAC C-17s operate around the globe — crossing continents, time zones during all seasons.
Winter has arrived at our home base in Pápa, Hungary — but snow and cold never stop our mission. Thanks to the dedication of the SAC team, we remain ready. Mother Nature has no pause button, and neither do we. ❄️✈️

A new year has begun, bringing with it a steady stream of missions and fresh challenges. As we look ahead, the Heavy Airlift Wing remains ready to provide global reach for our 12 member nations.

Reflecting on 2025, our stats tell a story of remarkable resilience. We successfully executed 187 missions and delivered 4,992 tonnes of vital cargo. While these numbers are impressive on their own, they represent a significant achievement: we maintained nearly our full operational tempo while two of our three aircraft (SAC01 and SAC03) underwent major overhauls respectively.

This feat was only possible through the unwavering professionalism of our personnel and the seamless collaboration between our nations, NSPA, and Boeing. Together, we ensure our mission never stops.

Happy Holidays!

As the holiday season has begun, the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) send our warmest greetings from Pápa, Hungary.

While many are gathering with loved ones, the mission of our 12-nation partnership never pauses. Our C-17 Globemaster III aircraft continue to traverse the globe, delivering critical materiel and personnel to where they are needed most. For our member nations, the commitment to global security and humanitarian aid is a 24/7/365 responsibility.

To our brave men and women currently in the air, on the tarmac, and stationed far from home this season: Thank you! Your dedication ensures that even during the holidays, hope and support reach every corner of the world.

Wishing our 12 member nations and our local community in Pápa a safe and peaceful holiday season.
