On Monday, August 10, we held our final Fulbright Forum of the 2025–2026 academic year, where three U.S. Fulbright-NSF Arctic Research scholars presented their research and reflected on their experiences in Iceland. 🇺🇸🇮🇸
Dr. Henry Stevens, post-doc from Georgetown University, presented his research on the causes and consequences of distributional change in a migratory shorebird, looking at how climate and seasonal conditions may be affecting migratory patterns.
Dr. Irina Filina, Associate Professor at University of Nebraska–Lincoln, presented her work testing the proposed continental status of “Icelandia” through the integration of geological and geophysical data. During her Fulbright period, she also brought a group of Nebraska students to Iceland to experience the country’s geology firsthand.
Dr. Laura Meyerson, Professor at University of Rhode Island
, presented her work on strengthening biosecurity in Iceland, focusing on biological invasions, invasive species governance and the growing challenges posed by non-native species.
The Forum was a great way to close out this academic year’s series of presentations and to hear about the wide range of research our Fulbright scholars have carried out during their time in Iceland.
Thank you to Henry, Irina and Laura for sharing their work with us, and we wish them all the best as their Fulbright grant periods in Iceland come to an end!
