A doctor of economics believes that adopting the euro could lead to unemployment among Icelanders, and the costs would therefore far outweigh the benefits. He says unemployment is very expensive for the nation and has a heavy impact on young people.
Anibal Hernandez is one of the owners of the Exit nightclub, which was closed down in a joint operation by the Metropolitan Police and the tax authorities on Saturday night. He says his business has not been smooth sailing since the closure and that the doormen who now work there do not work for the security service that was targeted in the operation.
Today MPs approved a bill to increase the salaries of elected representatives and civil servants by 3.5 percent in July, rather than the planned 9.7 percent. The salaries of elected representatives have generally been updated once a year in line with the average salary increase for government employees that year. The plan was to increase wages by 9.7 percent.

The Board of Directors of Community Residences hf. has appointed Thordís La Thorhallsdóttir to the position of Managing Director of the company. The Board's decision is based on a prior assessment by the Advisory Qualifications Committee. The Qualifications Committee's conclusion was that Thordís Loa Thorhallsdottir was considered to best meet the qualification requirements set out in the advertisement for the position.

Those who were involved in a collision on the highway near Lake Mývatn yesterday were foreign tourists. This is what Heimir Harðarson, the chief of police for the Northeastern Iceland region, said when asked. Three people were injured in the two-car collision, i.e. the drivers of the cars and one passenger. The cars were badly damaged and undriveable after the collision.
