This summer, heat has been more than just uncomfortable.

It has put extra strain on our bodies, especially for older people, children, outdoor workers and people living with chronic conditions. 🌡️

In coastal urban areas, like the South Adriatic, heat does not act alone. It combines with poor air quality, water stress, urban environments and other environmental pressures.

This is why MICA works on climate-health data: to better understand where risks are emerging and how they can affect people’s health. 📊

🔄 Do you know what “interoperability” means?

It may sound technical, but the idea is simple: public offices and digital systems should be able to exchange information and work together.
For people, this can mean submitting a document only once, avoiding repeated data entry and completing procedures more easily.

💡 Interoperability is a shared challenge for public administrations. By comparing needs and experiences, different territories can learn from one another and develop solutions that can be adapted to different local contexts.

This is the approach of Interreg , bringing together public administrations from Apulia, Molise, Albania and Montenegro to improve digital tools, simplify procedures and share more effective ways of working. 🤝🌊

🌏🔥Beyond emergency: common standards and IT Platform for the South Adriatic.

The wildfires currently impacting Apulia, Molise, Albania, and Montenegro are a clear reminder that environmental risks know no borders and require integrated governance models.

For EMERGE, these events reinforce the urgency of a "Governance First" approach:

🔹 A Joint Interregional Standard offering public authorities unified rules for risk assessment and management.
🔹 An Ecosystem Risk-Based IT Platform: a single digital entry point connecting public authorities, civil protection units, research centres, SMEs and infrastructure providers to co-develop, test, and adopt innovative, ecosystem-friendly solutions.
Connecting institutions, innovators, and technologies is key to building a safer and more resilient South Adriatic space 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

9.7% of Albania's population is already over 65.
By 2050, that figure will reach 26.4%.
Only 1.6% of those who need long-term care receive any public support.
Dr Eugjen Sotiri of University Hospital Center Tirana presented a stark gap analysis of neurodegenerative care in Albania, mapping what patients and families actually need against what the system currently offers.

The picture is clear: Albania is ageing faster than its care system is preparing for. Memory screening is not routine. Specialists are concentrated in Tirana. Over 64,000 Albanians over 60 live alone. And there is still no legal framework for digital health tools, AI, or telemedicine.

But the research doesn't stop at the problems. It points to concrete steps: earlier screening, services closer to home, support for family caregivers, and a regulatory environment that lets innovation actually happen.

Welcome to the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo Lazio e Molise, a place where nature isn’t just something to admire, but something to protect.

Established in 1923, the Park stretches across around 50,000 hectares of mountains, forests, grasslands and breathtaking landscapes. It is home to some of the most iconic species of the Apennines, including the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf and the Abruzzo chamois. 🐺🦌

The mountains of Molise became an open-air laboratory for sport, health and sustainable tourism. 🏔️

In July, Carovilli hosted the first TOURISFIT pilot event, organised by Sviluppo Italia Molise and the University of Molise.
Across two days, 196 people took part in cycling, running, technical demonstrations, free health screenings and scientific sessions on exercise, prevention and well-being.

Athletes, students, researchers, healthcare professionals, institutions and local communities came together to explore how sport tourism can create value for both visitors and host territories.

In Carovilli, the answer began to take shape: healthier lifestyles, stronger communities and new opportunities for sustainable development across the South Adriatic. 🌿

One pilot, many perspectives — and the TOURISFIT journey has only just begun. 🤝
