Cinque Terre, Italy

The season is starting, my inbox is full of emails booking accommodation and tours. You often ask me how many days you should spend in the Cinque Terre. I say minimum 3 nights, so you have 2 full days to discover the 5 villages. But if you'd also like to enjoy the beaches and bays, hike, take a boat tour, taste local wine, make pesto or enjoy kayaking along the coast, you should stay for one or two weeks, I guarantee you won't be bored. Plenty of colourful villages along the coast, 100 kms of hiking trails, stunning bays and beaches all over the place. Plus a long list of sustainable tours you can book.

One of my favourite activities is doing nothing in Corniglia, the "dolce far niente", when we are sitting on the piazza or on the stairs. Just people watching and chatting. Nothing special is happenning, still, these are very important moments in our lives.

Wishing you many quiet moments in 2023, when you can just relax and sit on some stairs somewhere in Italy.

Just a few weeks and my favourite seaside bars are opening. Another good news is that from February 11 we can say goodbye to our masks outside.

Sciacchetrà: the queen of Cinque Terre wines

During the harvest the winemaker picks the most beautiful bunches of grapes and hangs them in his cellar. Grapes are drying here for at least 50 days, usually until the start of November. Then the winemaker destems the bunches by hand.

The result is a concentrated, mineral, sweet wine, with an alcohol strength up to 17%. We drink Sciacchetrà mainly with deserts, but it's also a good match with different cheeses.

Sciacchetrà is a really valuable wine. If you get Sciacchetrà from another person, you should know that it's a very special gift. When a baby is born, the family usually buys a bottle of Sciacchetrà and then open it on the 18th birthday party.

You can taste Sciacchetrà in local bars and restaurants, or you can buy a bottle in the small shops of the villages. After spending a few relaxing days with family and friends, tomorrow I'll be back at my laptop arranging bookings and uploading great new apartments, villas and tours to my website.

I am really grateful that even in a strange year like 2021 so many of you trusted me to book your accommodation, boat or tour in the Cinque Terre and other parts of Liguria.
