(by Roberto Molle) At the end of October 2016, this tank's hatch commander near the Hi**er Line was found; not without difficulty she is saved from oblivion with the fundamental help of our friend Daniele Di Ruzza. I notice that it is burned and that underneath there is a sand camouflage, I find out that it is a manhole tank of a Churchill tank. On the Hi**er Line, this tank was supplied with only one unit, the North Irish Horse, the only British unit aggregated to the I Division of Canada. In the fighting of 23 May 44 this unit lost as many as 25 Churchill tanks with many wounded and fallen, especially by the Pantherturm, the Panther turrets buried there. In fact, there is a picture of one of these towers and at the end you can see the destroyed Churchill and this hatch is about 500 meters from this position. November 11, 2016 I go to the cemetery of the Commonwelth to take a picture to post on the page Association Battle of Cassino as it is the Remembrance Day. Made the photo known, from a distance, a grave with a photo: it is not allowed to put photos on the graves of the fallen, sometimes the family does it, is left for some time and then removed from the responsible of the Cemetery, but on these occasions, the photographer always, to have them in the archive. Well pass a score of rows of fallen, I approach this grave, I take the picture .... after I read: a fallen 21 years of the North Irish Horse, May 23, 1944, a Lieutenant then a commander ... I look all around are nearby, the fallen of the Churchill destroyed of that day. The circle, from the past, had closed ... and a lump in the throat difficult to swallow.
(di Roberto Molle) Alla fine di ottobre 2016 viene rinvenuta questa botola del comandante di carro nei pressi della Linea Hi**er; non senza difficoltà viene salvata dall'oblio con l'aiuto fondamentale dell'amico Daniele Di Ruzza. Noto che è bruciata e che sotto vi è un mimetismo sabbia, scopro che si tratta di una botola capocarro di un carro Churchill. Sulla Linea Hi**er tale carro era in dotazione ad una sola unità, il North Irish Horse, unica unità britannica aggregata alla I Divisione Canadese. Nei combattimenti del 23 maggio 44 tale unità p***e ben 25 carri Churchill con molti feriti e caduti, ad opera soprattutto delle Pantherturm, le torrette di Panther interrate ivi presenti. C'è infatti una foto che ritrae una di queste torrette ed in fondo si vedono dei Churchill distrutti e questa botola viene da circa 500 metri da questa posizione. L'11 Novembre 2016 mi reco al cimitero del Commonwelth per fare una foto da postare sulla pagina Associazione Battaglia di Cassino in quanto è il Remembrance Day. Fatta la foto noto, da lontano, una tomba con una foto: non è concesso mettere le foto sulle tombe dei caduti, ogni tanto lo fa la famiglia, viene lasciata per qualche tempo e poi tolta dai responsabili del Cimitero, in queste occasioni però, le fotografo sempre, per averle in archivio. Ebbene passo una ventina di file di caduti, mi avvicino a questa tomba, scatto la foto....dopo leggo: un caduto di 21 anni del North Irish Horse, del 23 maggio 1944, un Lieutenant quindi un capocarro...mi guardo intorno sono tutti li, vicini, i caduti dei carri Churchill di quel giorno. Il cerchio, dal passato, si era chiuso...ed un nodo alla gola difficile da mandare giù.
