Castel Vittorio (430mt ASL) is built on a steep hill overlooking the Nervia Valley and the Pigna Thermal Spa.
The village is located just a few kilometres away from the sea and in sight of the Maritime Alps.
Positioned strategically on an outcrop of rock, the wedge-shaped layout of this ancient settlement appears from the south as if suspended above bountiful olive groves.
You can still see the ruins of the medieval citadel. The high bell tower of the Baroque parish church of Santo Stefano, which was built on the site of an old fortification, holds a crucifix attributed to Maragliano.
If you leave the town in the direction of the ancient boundary between Pigna and Castel Vittorio, you will see the ruins of the Romanesque church of Santa Maria del Nogareto, near the old bridge on Lake Pigo. Dating from the twelfth century but reconstructed in the sixteenth century, it lies secluded among olive and chestnut groves.
Charming CastelVittorio is a picturesque hilltop Medieval village nestled amongst olive and chestnut groves only a few Km from the Mediterranean sea
