🔥 BRUSH FIRE UPDATE – MARINAI HOUSING / 417 🔥

Good news, Marinai Housing residents.

As we like to say in the fire service, we have “cut the head off the snake.” Fire crews have stopped the primary threat to Marinai Housing, and the fire is now spreading away from the housing area.

At this time, the immediate threat to Marinai Housing has been significantly reduced.

We want to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation while our crews have been working this incident. Your willingness to stay clear of the area has allowed firefighters to concentrate on getting ahead of the fire.

There may still be smoke in the area, so please continue to use appropriate precautions as needed, particularly for children, elderly residents, and anyone with respiratory sensitivities. Please also continue to avoid areas where firefighters and emergency vehicles are operating.

We’re not finished yet, but the situation is moving in the right direction.

🔥 BRUSH FIRE – MARINAI HOUSING / 417 AREA 🔥

Marinai Housing Residents,

Fire crews are currently responding to a brush fire near the 417 and the on-ramp bridge adjacent to Marinai Housing.

🚧 Traffic in the affected area has been stopped. Residents are asked to stay away from the 417/on-ramp bridge area and allow emergency personnel room to safely operate.

Heavy smoke may be present in and around Marinai Housing. Residents should take precautions to limit smoke exposure:

• Stay indoors when possible and keep windows and doors closed.
• Avoid outdoor exercise or strenuous activity while smoke is present.
• Keep children, elderly residents, and anyone especially sensitive to smoke indoors.
• If driving nearby, use caution due to reduced visibility and emergency vehicle activity.
• Do not approach the fire area to observe or take photographs.

Please continue to avoid the area until emergency crews have the situation under control and traffic restrictions are lifted.

Stay safe and give our firefighters room to work.

NOTICE TO MARINAI HOUSING RESIDENTS

To the fine folks of NAS Sigonella Marinai Housing:

There is currently a grass fire along the fence line between Marinai Housing and the SS-417. The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke in and around the housing area.

As our Fire & Emergency Services crews work to bring the situation under control, we ask residents to please remain indoors when possible, keep windows and doors closed, and limit outdoor activities, particularly for children, pets, and anyone who may be sensitive to smoke.

Please keep clear of the affected area and allow emergency personnel and vehicles unrestricted access. There is no need to approach the fence line to observe the fire.

We are actively working the incident and will provide additional information if conditions change.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Stay inside, stay clear of the area, and stay safe.

🔥 🚒 Honoring dedication, teamwork, and a major career milestone on the front lines. 🇺🇸 🇮🇹

Chief 2 and Engine 10 recently responded to a working trailer fire. Thanks to their rapid arrival and aggressive initial attack, the crew quickly knocked down the flames and successfully prevented the fire from extending into the adjoining trailer, protecting neighboring property and keeping our community safe.

​For three members of the Engine 10 crew, this incident marked a defining career milestone: their very first working structure fire. Facing intense heat and zero-visibility conditions for the first time, these firefighters executed their training flawlessly, operating with calm precision under pressure.

​To commemorate their first interior attack and recognize their decisive action, Fire Captain Salvatore Blancato presented each of the three firefighters with a personalized plaque.

​Please join us in commending Fire Captain Michael Fleming and the entire Engine 10 crew for their professionalism, swift ex*****on, and unwavering service to our community.

“My passion for the fire service began during my military career here in Sigonella. I quickly fell in love with the brotherhood, teamwork, and shared purpose.”

“Music! I enjoy performing as a vocalist, whether harmonizing in a choir or bringing energy to a live band.”

“Prioritize your professional development, pursue every certification you can, stay positive, and always maintain professionalism.”

“I love our beautiful beaches and mountain trails. Spending time there with my family is one of my favorite things about living here.”

“I’m part of a historical dance group in Catania and enjoy spending time at our family beach house working on landscaping and outdoor projects.”
