The Republic of Ossola was a short-lived partisan republic founded during the 1944 partisan rebellion against the N**i occupation. Just as Stalin held back his armies when the anti-Soviet Polish resistance staged the Warsaw uprising, the Allied i.e. US command stopped its offensive against the N**is and ordered Italian partisans to stand down during the 1944 partisan rebell
ion. Aid promised to the Ossola partisans, who had built an airstrip, was never delivered. The US command allowed the N**is some breathing space so that they could wipe out the Italian partisans, who were mostly communists. The Republic of Ossola, recognized by Switzerland and Allied consulates in Switzerland, fell after 40 days because the US and British allowed the N**is to do their dirty work.
