The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and communities in Nepal affected by the recent deadly flash floods in the country’s northern border region.

As of August 28, 2026, no Filipino casualties have been reported in connection with the catastrophic flooding.

The DMW, in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine authorities on the ground, and the Filipino community in Kathmandu, is closely monitoring the situation and verifying the condition and whereabouts of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who may have been affected by the disaster.

The DMW stands ready to provide all appropriate and necessary assistance to affected OFWs and their families, in coordination with relevant Philippine government agencies and authorities.

𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗸𝗼 𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗯, 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗮 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 — Nahukuman at nahatulang guilty sa Illegal Recruitment si Roderick Paculdar y Reyes ng Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 126, Caloocan City, matapos mangako ng trabaho bilang nursing aide sa Singapore kapalit ng daan-daang libong piso.

Ayon sa desisyon ng korte, nakapagbayad ang complainant ng mahigit ₱700,000.00 mula Marso hanggang Abril 2024 matapos kumbinsihin ni Paculdar na kaya nitong ayusin ang kanyang deployment sa Singapore.

Sa tulong ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) – Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB), natuklasan na hindi affiliated o empleyado ng isang licensed recruitment agency si Paculdar at wala siyang lisensya o awtoridad na magsagawa ng recruitment at deployment para sa overseas employment.

Mula sa pagkuha ng statement at paghahanda at pagsasampa ng kaso hanggang sa paglilitis, patuloy na nagbigay ng legal assistance ang DMW sa complainant. Kinatawan din ng DMW ang kaso bilang special collaborating prosecutor, katuwang ang DOJ prosecutor, sa mga pagdinig ng korte.

Sa tulong ng DMW, naiulat ng complainant ang insidente sa Caloocan City Police. Nang humingi pa ang akusado ng karagdagang ₱6,500.00, isinagawa ang entrapment operation noong 18 Abril 2024 sa labas ng Jollibee, SM City Grand Central, Caloocan City. Narekober mula sa possession ng akusado ang marked money na naging bahagi ng ebidensiyang iniharap sa korte.

Batay sa desisyon, napatunayang guilty si Paculdar sa Illegal Recruitment matapos mapatunayan na wala siyang kinakailangang lisensya o awtorisasyon upang magsagawa ng recruitment at placement, alinsunod sa mga probisyon ng Labor Code at Republic Act No. 8042, as amended by RA No. 10022.

Hinatulan siya ng 14 na taon at isang araw hanggang 16 na taon na pagkakakulong, bukod sa ₱1,000,000.00 na multa. Inatasan din siyang bayaran ang complainant ng ₱737,357.00, kasama ang 6% legal interest bawat taon, alinsunod sa desisyon ng korte.

Muling nagpapaalala ang DMW sa mga naghahanapbuhay sa ibang bansa na mag-verify muna bago magbayad. Tiyaking lisensyado at awtorisado ng DMW ang recruiter o recruitment agency at agad ireport ang kahina-hinalang recruitment activities sa https://www.facebook.com/dmwairtip.

Designed to provide a more accessible learning opportunity for the Filipino community, the course is conducted entirely online and scheduled after regular working hours, allowing participants to attend classes without disrupting their work commitments. The online format also enables individuals from different cities and regions to participate without the need to travel.

The course is facilitated by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚 and aims to equip participants with practical Italian language skills that can support their daily interactions, workplace communication, and integration into Italian society.

As Filipinos continue to build their lives and careers abroad, initiatives such as this seek to create opportunities for learning, growth, and connection, reinforcing the role of MWO Milan as a Tahanan ng OFW for the Filipino community in Northern Italy.
