Seabees during Northern Viking 26 conducted Airfield Damage Repair (ADR). Bringing speed, precision, and teamwork to rapidly restore damaged airfield surfaces and get the fight moving again.

From breaking ground to repairing the runway, these Seabees showcased the expeditionary expertise and readiness it takes to keep air operations going when it matters most.

Damage happens. Seabees respond. The mission continues. ⚓️🇺🇸

Iceland and its territorial waters are the “Gateway to the Arctic.” 🇮🇸❄️

The 37th Airlift Squadron from Ramstein Air Base, Germany l is securing this strategic geography, contributing critical tactical airlift capabilities during Exercise Northern Viking 26.

NV26 demonstrates the unwavering U.S. commitment to Iceland and to security and stability in the High North. While the Arctic is becoming more accessible with new transit routes and new resources setting the stage for increased competition, one thing is certain: We are ready.

Different platforms, different countries, one team 🇮🇸🤝

Icelandic Coast Guard, a U.S. Air Force C-130, a German P-8A and NATO Maritime assets from France, Canada, Lithuania, Poland and Germany come together during Northern Viking in a snapshot of Allied interoperability and cooperation across the North Atlantic. 🌊✈️

Northern Viking 2026 ⚔️🛡️

Exercise Northern Viking 2026 takes place across Iceland from 22 August to 3 September and is designed to strengthen interoperability and force readiness between the United States, Iceland, and allied nations, focussing on:

🔹Anti-submarine warfare 🔱
🔹Mine countermeasures 💣
🔹Expeditionary construction 🛠️
🔹Search and rescue 🧑‍🚒
🔹Humanitarian medical and disaster response.⛑️

The exercise enables critical multi-domain command and control of joint and coalition forces defending Iceland and safeguarding the sea lines of communication within the Greenland, Iceland, and United Kingdom (GIUK) gap.

“Together, we're honing our war fighting skills and ensuring our ability to secure this critical region and to project decisive combat power wherever and whenever necessary,” said Gen Alexus G. Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe and commander U.S. European Command.

Allied forces have gathered in Iceland as Exercise Northern Viking 26 begins — strengthening readiness, interoperability and the collective defence of the strategically vital North Atlantic and High North❄️.

Operating across multiple domains, Allies will train to defend Iceland and protect the sea lines of communication through the GIUK Gap — a critical link between North America and Europe.

Training together. Defending together. Keeping the Atlantic secure. 🛡️
