Community Update: Recent Support Site Housing Power Outages

Recent Outage Details:
On June 10, from approximately 6:25 PM to 7:10 PM, a temporary power outage affected homes and facilities connected to Substation 1.0 at the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples Support Site. Initial findings indicate this outage was caused by a fault at a neighboring industrial facility on our shared local utility line.

• All base electrical systems performed exactly as designed, successfully shielding our internal equipment from damage. This event was entirely separate from the May 28-30 outages, which were triggered by severe external voltage spikes from physical damage on the local utility network.

Understanding Summer Power Fluctuations:
Summer historically brings increased grid instability and power fluctuations to our region, largely due to high air conditioning and refrigeration demands from nearby manufacturing plants sharing our shared utility line.

Our Recent Findings:
We recently received the full diagnostic report from our electrical equipment partner and are executing the following next steps:

• System Recalibration: Adjust our modern equipment's settings to make it less sensitive to minor external grid dips while keeping our infrastructure fully protected.
• External Coordination: Remain in communication with local liaisons to mitigate these external issues and expedite long-term repairs to the shared grid.

For due diligence, the review may take several weeks. We will keep you informed of our progress and appreciate your patience as we work to improve our power reliability. Public Works remains committed to finding solutions to balance system safety with power reliability.

Summer Safety: The Golden Rule - Helmets & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 🪖☀️

With longer days and great weather, it’s the perfect time to get outside and ride! But before you hit the pavement, let's talk about your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Whether it’s a bicycle, scooter, or skateboard, you MUST wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet. Helmets must meet ASTM F1447, Snell B-95, or CPSC standards. For PTDs, a full-coverage helmet is highly encouraged.

GEAR UP FOR SUMMER SAFETY!
We strongly recommend wearing:
- Impact-resistant eye protection
- Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear
- Full-finger gloves
- Knee and elbow pads
- Brightly colored or reflective clothing (especially for those warm evening rides!)

A simple helmet can save a life!
