Vincenzo MILITELLO (Agrigento, 1958) is full professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Palermo University (Law School), where he taught also Comparative, European and International Criminal Law. His scientific
interest are in the field of general and special parts of criminal law, as well as of the modern problems of criminal policy, with special attention to the comparative approach and to the harmonisation at European and International level. He wrote more than 140 scientific publications (45 in international journals and books), whose main topics are Risk, Causality, Self-defence, Sentencing; Offences against life, property and State; Transnational Organized Crime; Economic crimes; such as fundamental problems of criminal law (relations between criminal theory and policy, functions of criminal sanction, death penalty, penal protection of human rights in Europe, principles of international criminal law). Member of the Board of Directors of ISISC International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences (Siracusa, Italy). Co-director of the Books series “Quaderni di diritto penale comparato, internazionale ed europeo”, Giuffrè, Milano. Member of the editorial board of the Journals: European Journal of Crime, Criminal law and Criminal Justice, Goltdammer’s Archiv für Strafrecht, Rivista trimestrale diritto penale dell’economia; Archivio penale. Since 2009 Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany for Western Sicily. In 2012-2013 expert for the evaluation of the Law-research for the National Agency for Research and University Evaluation.
