The region of Le Marche is in the hearts of many Italians who claim it as the most beautiful of them all. Here the tourist has a different name , they are called “guests” those that always return “. Tuscany and Napoli coast have always been a dominant choice as an Italian destination, but for the traveler in search of an alternative ,where restaurants have not bi- lingual menus , the shops still have home made products and the local people always remember your name, Le Marche is the place to go.
Petritoli is a small town, just one of many perked on the hill tops of this idililc painters dream land . Most importantly it is perfectly hidden with none of the touristy wear and tear traps. Here there are no souvenir shops , no threatening parking tickets , no jungles of warning signs, no tricky restaurants or insisting vendors . What is special here is that after your second cappuccino you are officially declared a local . It is the rare authentic ambient of the True Italy that many visitors find pleasing and discovering the sweet manner of the people that makes you feel this place is really special. In this soft hilly landscape of little towns the past rivalries are still alive , it is just the theme that change , firstly which one has more “guests “ and secondly which one wins the local football matches . Petritoli certainly can be proud of both .
It is through Palazzo Mannocchi that Petritoli greets the world . Guests from all over the world come to celebrate and enjoy their time together . When a large or small group of people arrive wether friends, family or colleagues they inevitably bring the joy of being together. That same good spirit spreads like a wind through the entire town . So much so that any event is the towns event . Perfectly small , not too spread out it concentrates all what is needed at walking distance and also being round ,you can never loose yourself .
After many years of welcoming guests we all look forward to every season and when it ends we find that those same guest have become our friends . Petritoli is learning English , the young people stay and open activities because its fun now . The bars make more gelato , the restaurants teach food traditions and our precious old ladies spread flowers to make the town more beautiful and they also tend to discuss the brides wedding gown. Also many little town houses have become perfect B&Bs and each year more open. All this thanks to the guests that manage to find us mostly through the voice of others who already came . One thing is for sure, “Welcome to Petritoli” is the only sign that we will ever need.
