1930, “ La Chiesa del Crocifisso”, the church of the crucifix still standing in the main square of Pizzo, before leaving room for a building from the period of fascism still present!!! Pura Vida.

In this picture we can see the last monastery still present in Pizzo. The San Francesco di Paola’s monastery that is the last of 8 monasteries that back in the time were present in the area of Pizzo. Inside them, mostly monks, were producing silk, furnishings and paintings that then were send from Pizzo’s port all around Europe. Here it is. The picturesque view from our castle in front the main square of Pizzo. Above the main entrance of the castle there is a memorial tablet in remembrance of Joachim Murat, brother-in-law of Napoleon and the castle’s most famous prisoner, who was shot in the castle. Here the old “Tonnara” located in the “ Seggiola “, a pice of paradise belonging to this land. The news about tuna fishing along the coast date back to the second half of the 400 and the second half of the 500, when the duke of Monteleone was owner of the fishing rights of the trap in Bivona Marina. Although, the most important activity appeared to be the one in the trap of Pizzo, whose owner was the Gagliardi family. “ La Fontana Vecchia” or the old fountain, before the XV century call the Garibaldi fountain because in the August 1860 the brigade Orsini of Garibaldi found refreshment of drinking water from this fountain on their journey to unite Italy.
