3️⃣5️⃣ anni fa, la Lettonia 🇱🇻 ha ristabilito la propria indipendenza de facto, riaffermando con decisione il suo posto tra le nazioni democratiche e la famiglia europea. Il 2️⃣1️⃣agosto 1️⃣9️⃣9️⃣1️⃣, il Consiglio Supremo adottò la Legge Costituzionale sullo Stato della Repubblica di Lettonia, mentre la pressione militare sovietica aumentava e si temeva un attacco all’edificio del Parlamento in qualsiasi momento. La Lettonia condivide un legame speciale con l’Islanda 🇮🇸, il primo Stato membro delle Nazioni Unite 🇺🇳 a riconoscere la nostra indipendenza già il giorno successivo, il 2️⃣2️⃣ agosto. Una settimana più tardi, il 2️⃣9️⃣ agosto, l’Ambasciata svedese 🇸🇪 divenne la prima ambasciata straniera a riaprire a Riga. Entro la fine del 1️⃣9️⃣9️⃣1️⃣, la Lettonia era stata riconosciuta da 9️⃣3️⃣ paesi. Come allora, così oggi e in futuro, il Servizio diplomatico lettone continua a rafforzare e ampliare i nostri legami internazionali.

, 35 years ago, Latvia 🇱🇻 restored its de facto independence, firmly re-establishing its place among democratic nations and the European family.
On 21 August 1991, the Supreme Council adopted the Constitutional Law on the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia, while Soviet military pressure was mounting and an attack on the Parliament building was expected at any moment.
Latvia shares a special bond with Iceland 🇮🇸, the first UN 🇺🇳 member state to recognise our independence the very next day, on 22 August. A week later, on 29 August, the Swedish 🇸🇪 Embassy became the first foreign embassy to reopen in Riga. By the end of 1991, Latvia had been recognised by 93 countries.
As then, so today and in the future, the Latvian Foreign Service continues to strengthen and broaden our international ties.
