SMACH presents the second day of cultural events of the season, created and organized together with our friends from Longega Project and ZeLIG - School for documentary.

The day begins in the morning, from 10:00 to 12:00, with guided tours in Val dl'Ert (upon reservation via the SMACH website). Then in the afternoon, from 18:00 to 19:30, also in Val dl'Ert near Conor McNally's artwork 'Ciasa' (limited parking on Strada del Mirì, followed by a 10-minute walk, or near the Museum Ladin area, followed by a 25-minute walk see Smach website 'Where to find' section), Longega Project presents the experiential event 'Was weiß Wasser, Wasser weiß was' by . This will be followed by 'Weiches Wasser', a musical storytelling performance by Die Dritte Zeit, a storyteller duo based in Munich.

A light dinner will follow, available for a free donation.

At 20:30, presentations of the film screenings organized by SMACH and Zelig - School for Documentary, Television and New Media will begin.
'Ape Maria' will be presented by director Greta Mentzel, editor Pia Profanter, and sound engineer Harald Erschbaumer, followed by the screening of the short film 'Pygmalia' by director Jonathan Bugiel.

Admission is completely free, except for dinner and drinks, which are available for a voluntary contribution. Comfortable shoes, a flashlight for the walk back at night, and perhaps a sweatshirt for the evening screenings are recommended.

On Friday, July 31st, SMACH presents two events organized in collaboration with two major South Tyrolean cultural institutions: BOLZANO DANZA | TANZ BOZEN and ZeLIG - School for documentary.

'Veduta_Atlante Mediterraneo' is a site-specific performance adapted to the natural and urban spaces of Picolin and San Martin. It is created by the internationally renowned director and choreographer Michele Di Stefano compagnia_mk and the equally internationally acclaimed musician Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch , in collaboration with five performers from Orbita Spellbound , the National Dance Production Center in Roma.

There will be two performances—with free admission—for a maximum of 40 people per slot. Attendees are requested to arrive at the 15/20 minutes before the show (so 4.45 and 5.45 PM). For more information, please write to [email protected] or call +39 333 5205386.

The event will be followed by a light dinner in the courtyard garden of the , and subsequently by the screenings of "Bostrico" by Giovanni Bez and "Mors Tua" by Giuseppe Crudele, organized in collaboration with the Zelig school.

'Bostrico' by Giovanni Bez explores the environmental emergency affecting many Alpine forests, including those in Val Badia.

'Mors tua' by Giuseppe Crudele, as the title suggests, follows cattle and farmers from the livestock auction to the slaughterhouse, alongside a group of hunters from Val Gardena with their prey, and a taxidermist preserving some of them.

The screenings will be introduced by the directors, who will also be available for a final Q&A session.

Admission to the all events is free.

The SMACH 2026 cultural program is supported by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - Ladin Culture, the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol - Office for Linguistic Minorities, and the generous sponsorship of Trainline.

A'sodëi SMACH Biennale!

More than a year of work comes to an end, a journey that started in the summer of 2024 with the selection of the theme (thanks to and for the ideas) and continued in the autumn and winter of the same year with the writing of the open call and its release. The submissiom period ran until February 2025, then we had the jury meetings in March, the production of the artworks and the setup between April and June. On july 12 there was the opening and last week we eventually finisched dismantling all the artworks.

Now is the time for the acknowledgments. So thanks to the 283 creatives who submitted their work, thanks to the 11 jury members, thanks to the 10 winners, thanks to the nearly 30 volunteers who helped us, thanks to the 7 members of the SMACH board, thanks to the sponsors, and thanks to all the visitors!

Did you know that this year's SMACH Biennale featured 11 works? The eleventh is ‘Hortus Pictus’, 's special project at Kronplatz-Plan de Corones, created in collaboration with the and . The 33 flags were hand-painted with the help of Elena Tomasi, Lorena Gelli, and all the students of the painting course at the Casa delle Arti in Comacchio. But what do the golden illustrations on black drapes represent? ‘Hortus Pictus’ means ‘painted garden’ in Latin and is not only the title of the work but also of the 18 volumes - with over 8,000 woodcuts of plants - that Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605) collected over 40 years of research. Today, these publications are kept at the University Library of Bologna and are considered a masterpiece of encyclopedism and botanical cataloging. The 33 flags you see here were illustrated by Buonafede and his collaborators based on the originals by the Bolognese naturalist and feature species of flora and fauna from Val Badia: arnica, orchids, bluebells, snowdrops, carnations, mountain geraniums, buttercups, anemones, gentians, pulsatillas, etc. 💐💐💐💐
