Villa Pianciani
Villa Pianciani is an exclusive residence perched up on a hill surrounded by olive trees and cypresses with a 360° outlook to the Spoleto Valley. Early work of Giuseppe Valadier, the villa complex was built in the 18th century for the noble Pianciani family. To this day it is one of the the most remarkable examples of elegant countryside estates in the entire Umbria region.
Within the large park, there are four buildings, the main villa and the annex that are situated close to each other and are also connected by an underground tunnel, the villa's private chapel that is also the work of the famous architect and the last one is the cottage situated at the edge of the park surrounded by the olive groves.
In the 1990s, the property got back to the descendants of the Pianciani family and in the early 2000s with the support of the Italian government the restoration process and the architectural improvement of the complex began to recover the original designs and to return the estate to its past glory.
Apart from that, a non-profit organization was set up to protect, restore and maintain the monumental complex and to manage its activities. Today with the help of the Matilde Pianciani Cultural Association, art and language courses, events, gatherings, weddings are organised and volunteers and tourists from around the world are welcomed to the Villa.
