Officers are appealing for information after a report of sexual assault in North Shields.

The incident happened along the Wagon Way between Percy Main and the Silverlink sometime between 2pm and 2.15pm today (Saturday, April 14).

A 17-year-old girl was out cycling when she has been approached by a man who then grabbed the bike’s handlebars before inappropriately grabbing her.

The girl was able to break free and cycled away and the suspect then headed towards the Silverlink area.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft tall, aged between 30-40, slim build, bald but with dark hair around the sides and dark brown short beard/stubble. He was wearing a dark blue hoodie and jeans.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are now asking for the public’s help. Officers would particularly like to speak with a jogger and a family of four who were in the area at the time of the incident.

Those in the area, or anyone with any information, are asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference number 652 14/04/18.
