🇪🇺🇯🇵 NEB in Japan. A strong partnership in progress.

The New European Bauhaus inspired the EU Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, invited projects from Japan to apply for the NEB Prizes 2026, and showcased Japanese innovation at the NEB Festival last June.

We are now strengthening our work together further.

Japan is officially associated to Horizon Europe. This covers Pillar II, which funds the R&I component of the NEB Facility, the multi-annual funding instrument for the New European Bauhaus.

Partners based in Japan can now join or lead international research consortia on the same terms as partners in EU Member States and other associated countries, and receive EU funding.

⚠️ Important to note: this agreement does not give EU partners access to Japanese funding opportunities.

Only a few days left to catch the EUmies Awards 2026 exhibition in Oulu.

Hosted at AaltoSiilo, one of Alvar and Aino Aalto's lesser known industrial buildings, the exhibition presents the winners and finalists of the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards 2026, together with a selection of Finnish nominated works.

A great opportunity to explore the debates shaping contemporary European architecture, and to see how this year's recognised projects connect with the Finnish architectural context.

🇯🇵 A new door just opened for the New European Bauhaus.

As of last month, Japan is officially associated to Horizon Europe — and that includes Pillar II, home to the NEB Facility.

In practice, this means Japanese researchers, designers, and innovators can now apply to NEB Facility calls, bringing their own ideas on sustainable materials, inclusive design, and liveable cities and neighbourhoods to life.

Twenty years of EU–Japan cooperation, and now a shared table for building places that are beautiful, sustainable, and together. 🌱🏛️

Pia Elgueta, an Argentinian fashion design student at the University of Palermo in 🇦🇷 Buenos Aires, was handed a country to translate into fabric: Slovenia 🇸🇮

The result, an original collection that translates Slovenian culture and architecture into volume and geometry, examining how clothing shapes our sense of body and identity.

Her designs debuted at Buenos Aires Fashion Week (Bafweek Oficial) and perfectly embody the core New European Bauhaus values:

📌 Sustainability. Natural fibres, cut from a single continuous piece of fabric. Minimum waste.

📌 Aesthetics. Argentina and Slovenia in one artistic language.

📌 Inclusion. Cut to adapt to any body.

Fashion, translating values across borders.
