Europe needs more homes. It also needs to cut emissions and build for a harsher climate. Decarbonising Architecture asks how to do both at once.

More speakers to be announced.

📌 6 November

"This summer was the summer of truth."

In yesterday's State of the Union, President Ursula von der Leyen set out Europe's response to a season of record heat, wildfires and drought: urban adaptation and cooling, stronger support for the most vulnerable territories, and a new European water initiative.

These priorities are close to the heart of the New European Bauhaus, which works at the local level where adaptation matters most: with cities, architects, designers and residents building greener, cooler and more resilient neighbourhoods for everyone.

For over 40 years, 🇪🇺European Capitals of Culture have changed the way a city sees itself and the way the world sees it.

Today we are rethinking what comes next. The European Commission has adopted its proposal for the new legal framework, covering 2034 to 2047, which will now be discussed with the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

From a stronger focus on legacy to greater involvement of young people and civil society, the proposed changes aim to make the initiative more inclusive, connected and impactful.

Future European Capitals of Culture should also align further with relevant EU initiatives, such as the New European Bauhaus, so that the impact of a title year lasts long after the torch passes to the next city.
