“Salt Marsh Plant Community Response to Freshwater Inflow Management: Implications for Sustainable Coastal Lagoon Restorations in the Northern Venice Lagoon (Italy)”
Lo studio analizza gli effetti della reintroduzione controllata di acqua dolce sul gradiente salino e sulla vegetazione di barena nella Laguna di Venezia, evidenziando il ruolo centrale della gestione idrologica nei processi di ripristino ecosistemico.
I risultati mostrano come interventi mirati possano ridurre la salinità e favorire cambiamenti significativi nelle comunità vegetali, contribuendo al recupero di habitat tipici delle acque di transizione, oggi fortemente ridotti dai processi di marinizzazione.
Il lavoro si sviluppa nell’ambito delle attività del progetto LIFE Lagoon Refresh e rappresenta un ulteriore contributo scientifico alla definizione di strategie sostenibili per la gestione delle lagune costiere.

The study investigates the effects of controlled freshwater inputs on salinity gradients and on the response of salt marsh plant communities in the Venice Lagoon, highlighting the key role of hydrological management in ecosystem restoration processes.
The results show that targeted freshwater inputs can effectively reduce salinity levels and promote significant changes in vegetation composition, supporting the recovery of transitional habitats that have been severely affected by long-term marinization processes.
This work contributes to the scientific basis for sustainable management strategies in coastal lagoons and builds on the experience gained within the LIFE Lagoon Refresh project.
