Situato nella Chiesa di San Lorenzo a Venezia, Ocean Space è un centro globale che promuove mostre, attività, ricerche e programmi pubblici che catalizzano l’alfabetizzazione e il sostegno di tematiche oceaniche attraverso l’arte. Fondata e guidata da TBA21–Academy e costruita sulla base del suo ampio lavoro degli ultimi dieci anni, questa ambasciata per gli oceani incoraggia la curiosità, l’impeg

no e l’azione collettiva. Nel 2019 Ocean Space ha inaugurato al pubblico con la mostra di Joan Jonas, “Moving Off the Land II", dopo essere stato in gran parte chiuso per più di 100 anni e dopo ampi lavori di rivitalizzazione, terminati all'inizio del 2020. Ocean Space segue una programmazione annuale che prevede la sua apertura al pubblico dalla primavera all’autunno.
Located in the Church of San Lorenzo in Venice, Ocean Space is a planetary center for exhibitions, activations, research and public programs catalyzing ocean literacy, and advocacy through the arts. Established and led by TBA21–Academy and building on its expansive work over the past ten years, this embassy for the oceans fosters wonder, engagement and collective action. In 2019, Ocean Space opened to the public with the exhibition “Moving Off the Land II” by Joan Jonas, after having been largely closed to the public for more than 100 years and after extensive revitalization works, which were finished in early 2020. Ocean Space operates an annual program, open to the public from spring to autumn.

Sabato 6 giugno il programma della Venice Climate Week a Ocean Space si apre con un panel, curato da TBA21, che indaga il ruolo di arte e cultura nel ridefinire il nostro rapporto con l’Oceano e gli ecosistemi.

Ad animare il dialogo, che riunisce prospettive scientifiche e artistiche, saranno Sébastien Ruiz (Fondation Tara Océan), Haley Ha (Schmidt Ocean Institute), e Karmenu Vella (Ex commissario europeo per l'Ambiente, gli oceani e la pesca, e ora consigliere speciale dell'attuale commissario responsabile per gli oceani e la pesca, il sig. Kadis), moderati da Markus Reymann (co-direttore di TBA21).

Insieme rifletteremo sulle connessioni tra osservazione scientifica, ricerca artistica e impegno civico e responsabilità collettiva di fronte alla crisi climatica.

Quante storie nasconde Venezia? 🌊 Vieni a scoprirle con noi venerdì 5 giugno durante il primo appuntamento di “The Many Venices. Walking Through Migrant Histories, Communities Across the Lagoon Between Past and Present”, ciclo di quattro camminate co-curato da Ocean Space e wetlands.

Luca Cosentino, direttore editoriale di wetlands, ci accompagnerà in una passeggiata tra Castello e Cannaregio per ripercorrere gli intrecci tra Venezia e le rotte africane, a partire dai percorsi esplorati nel libro Venezia africana.

Tra passato e presente, la città si rivela come uno spazio di scambi, attraversamenti e stratificazioni culturali invisibili.

How many stories does Venice hide? 🌊 Join us on Friday, June 5, for the first event in "The Many Venices. Walking Through Migrant Histories, Communities Across the Lagoon Between Past and Present", a series of four walks co-curated by Ocean Space and wetlands.

Luca Cosentino, Editorial Director of wetlands, will lead us on a walk through Castello and Cannaregio, tracing the connections between Venice and African routes through the stories explored in the book African Venice.

Moving between past and present, the city emerges as a space of exchange, movement, and layered cultural histories that often remain unseen.

La seconda edizione, dal titolo “Planet Aqua, Planet Peace”, invita a ripensare il futuro del pianeta a partire dall’acqua come infrastruttura fondamentale attraverso cui interpretare le grandi trasformazioni contemporanee.

🫧 Dalle 9:30 fino alle 20:00 si alterneranno ospiti provenienti da diversi ambiti e settori per conversazioni, riflessioni e incontri in cui ricerca scientifica, politiche pubbliche, pratiche artistiche e partecipazione civica si intrecciano per immaginare nuovi modelli di convivenza tra sistemi naturali e sistemi umani.

The second edition, titled “Planet Aqua, Planet Peace,” invites us to rethink the future of the planet starting from water as a fundamental infrastructure through which to interpret the major transformations of our time.

“The Many Venices” è un viaggio tra storie migranti, comunità e influenze della laguna di Venezia. 🫧

Parte del programma pubblico 2026 di Ocean Space, il ciclo di quattro camminate invita a riscoprire la laguna attraverso le prospettive delle comunità che hanno plasmato la città nel corso dei secoli.

Ci muoveremo dal continente africano al Bangladesh e al Medio Oriente, fino alle reti migratorie contemporanee che continuano a trasformare Venezia oggi.

🚶‍♀️ A giugno e settembre, guidati/e da persone ospiti legate all’universo editoriale di wetlands, attraverseremo calli, strade, quartieri, negozi e laboratori, attraverso itinerari che riveleranno una Venezia spesso nascosta allo sguardo comune, una città costruita attraverso incontri, movimenti e attraversamenti.

🌊 “The Many Venices” è co-curato da Ocean Space e wetlands, con il supporto di Community Partner di Ocean Space.


“The Many Venices” is a journey through migrant stories, communities, and the influences that have shaped the Venetian lagoon. 🫧

Part of the 2026 public program of Ocean Space, this cycle of four walks invites participants to rediscover the lagoon through the perspectives of the communities that have shaped the city over the centuries.

We will move from the African continent to Bangladesh and the Middle East, tracing contemporary migratory networks that continue to transform Venice today.

🚶‍♀️ In June and September, guided by guest contributors connected to the editorial world of wetlands, we will walk through calli, streets, neighbourhoods, shops, and workshops along itineraries that reveal a Venice often hidden from ordinary view, a city built through encounters, movements, and crossings.

🌊 “The Many Venices” is co-curated by Ocean Space and wetlands, with the support of Venezia FC, Community Partner of Ocean Space.

Che cos'è la biodiversità? 🫧 Per rispondere a questa domanda è necessario poter accedere alla conoscenza sul tema, ma questo non è sempre possibile a tutti/e.

Lo scorso anno, nell'ambito del programma Ocean Schools, abbiamo prodotto 5 video-pillole in LIS per spiegare concetti scientifici chiave legati alla biodiversità attraverso un linguaggio visivo e facilitato.

🌊 Da oggi queste risorse sono disponibili online sul nostro sito per favorire l’apprendimento di studenti/esse sordi e di chi predilige canali visivi, restando però accessibili e utili a chiunque.

Una sezione che si amplierà nel tempo con nuovi testi, video e documenti affinché tutti/e possano conoscere e salvaguardare il pianeta e l’Oceano.

ℹ️ I video sono parte del programma "Ocean Schools" per l’anno scolastico 2024-2025, realizzato in collaborazione con CNR ISMAR e finanziato dal Biodiversity Gateway del National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), in riferimento al Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza.

Questo fine settimana ti aspettiamo a “Voga! Woda!”, un laboratorio creativo e una parata in kayak tra arte, attivismo e diritti della laguna. 🚣‍♀️ 🎨

Sabato 23 insieme al collettivo River Sisters creeremo costumi ispirati alla fauna e alla vita della laguna veneziana, da usare il giorno successivo – domenica 24 maggio – in una colorata parata galleggiante in kayak, che si svolgerà in coordinazione con la Vogalonga.

❗ Posti limitati, iscrizione obbligatoria tramite Eventbrite.

Chi si iscrive è tenuto/a a partecipare sia al workshop del 23 maggio che alla parata del 24 maggio.

La partecipazione alla parata sarà organizzata con il sostegno di Ocean Space, ma i/le partecipanti dovranno provvedere al pagamento della quota di noleggio del kayak, pari a 30 €.

🌊 “Voga! Woda!” è una parata sviluppata da River Sisters, in dialogo con Barena Bianca e l'associazione Soralai. L’evento fa parte del programma pubblico dell’iniziativa “Nature Speaks” e si inserisce nella campagna per i diritti della laguna portata avanti dal Policy Lab dell’iniziativa.

This weekend, join us for “Voga! Woda!”, a creative workshop and kayak parade bringing together art, activism, and the rights of the lagoon. 🚣‍♀️ 🎨

On Saturday 23 May, together with the collective River Sisters, we will create costumes inspired by the fauna and life of the Venetian lagoon, to be worn the following day — Sunday 24 May — during a colorful floating kayak parade held in coordination with the Vogalonga.

❗ Limited spots available. Registration is required via Eventbrite (link in our bio).

Participants who register are expected to attend both the workshop on 23 May and the parade on 24 May.

Participation in the parade is organized with the support of Ocean Space, but participants are required to cover the kayak rental fee of €30.

🌊 “Voga! Woda!” is a parade developed by River Sisters in dialogue with Barena Bianca and the association Soralai. The event is part of the public program of the initiative “Nature Speaks” and contributes to the campaign for lagoon rights promoted by the Policy Lab of the initiative.

Durante il laboratorio realizzeremo figure e bambole con tessuti, materiali e oggetti di recupero, in dialogano con i temi della mostra Tide of Returns. Prosegue anche la tessitura collettiva blu, che si arricchirà di nuovi intrecci e contributi condivisi.

🐡 Le/i partecipanti realizzeranno e decorreranno costumi ispirati alla vita della laguna veneziana. Cappelli, mantelli, bandiere e piccoli oggetti da usare in una colorata parata in kayak, che si svolgerà domenica 24 maggio 2026 in coordinazione con la Vogalonga.

Insieme rifletteremo su come le pratiche artistiche possano sostenere i diritti della natura e dare voce agli ecosistemi acquatici.

Cosa sono i diritti della natura? 👇

Insieme a Pietro Consolandi, co-curatore dell’iniziativa Nature Speaks, scopriamo le origini e le richieste di quello che il Segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite António Guterres ha descritto come il movimento legale in più rapida crescita del ventunesimo secolo.

A Venezia un'ampia alleanza di gruppi cittadini, attivisti/e, ricercatori/trici ha già pubblicato una dichiarazione per chiedere che la Laguna abbia propri diritti e personalità giuridica.

🗓️ Sabato 16 maggio, 11:00 – 14:00, a Ocean Space terremo la prima assemblea cittadina per confrontarci sul tema insieme alla comunità e agli/alle attivisti/e di IDRA – Iniziativa per i Diritti delle Reti d’Acqua e capire come procedere affinché la laguna di Venezia possa essere protetta e rispettata.

What are the Rights of Nature? 👇

Together with Pietro Consolandi, co-curator of the initiative Nature Speaks, we explore the origins and demands of what United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has described as the fastest-growing legal movement of the twenty-first century.

In Venice, a broad alliance of citizens’ groups, activists, and researchers has already published a declaration calling for the Lagoon to be granted its own rights and legal personhood.

🗓️ On Saturday, May 16, from 11am to 2pm, at Ocean Space, we will hold the first citizens’ assembly to discuss the topic together with the community and the activists of IDRA – Initiative for the Rights of Water Networks, and to explore how to move forward so that the Venice Lagoon can be protected and respected.
