Subject: Resignation of Mayor Misty Songe

It is with appreciation and solemn regard that the City of Vidor hereby acknowledges the official resignation of Mayor Misty Songe, submitted in writing and accepted by the City Council during closed session on June 24, 2025. The resignation will take effect at the close of business on Monday, July 15, 2025.
Mayor Songe has faithfully served the City of Vidor since 2021. Her leadership during challenging economic and public health times has left a lasting positive impact on infrastructure revitalization, youth programs, and civic trust. The City Council and administration extend their deepest gratitude for her years of dedication, professionalism, and vision for a stronger Vidor.

Pursuant to the City Charter of Vidor, Article III, Section 5, the following steps are now in motion:
1. Deputy Mayor Kimberly Rhodes shall assume all duties as Acting Mayor, effective July 16, 2025, until a successor is duly elected and sworn into office.
2. A Special Election to elect the next Mayor of Vidor will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Candidate filing will open on July 20, 2025, and close on August 5, 2025, in accordance with Texas Election Code.
3. The Vidor City Council will convene a Special Session on July 2, 2025, to establish a transitional oversight committee and ensure continuity of municipal operations during this period.
We urge all citizens to remain engaged and involved in this historic moment. Further announcements regarding candidate forums, voting registration deadlines, and polling locations will be published through official city channels and the Vidor Times.
