Government House Jersey The Lieutenant-Governor in Jersey is appointed by His Majesty The King for a period of 5 years term. presentative and impartial adviser.

Some of the Lieutenant-Governor's specific responsibilities include:

- to represent Her Majesty The Queen on ceremonial occasions
- to host Royal, Ambassadorial and VIP visits and occasions in conjunction with the Island's authorities and the UK government
- to act as a point of contact between the Island's authorities and the UK government
- to play a full and active part in the social and chari

table affairs of the Island and to promote community activity in this area
to carry out certain executive functions, primarily in relation to the control of immigration, deportation and naturalisation and the issue of passports
- to transmit recommendations for certain Crown appointments to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice from the Insular and Church authorities, as appropriate
- to make recommendations for the award of Honours to Island residents
- to be the Commander in Chief of UK Armed Forces in the Island
- to direct the administration of the Crown Estate in the Island

His Excellency and Lady Kyd were delighted to be attend Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Spectacular Opening Ceremony at the OVO Hydro ahead of 11 days of sport which will see over 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories compete across 10 sports and six Para sports.

His Excellency and Lady Kyd were delighted to host a Reception at Government House to wish “Bon Voyage” to Team Jersey as they depart for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The competition, which is being held in Glasgow, is scheduled to begin in a week.

His Excellency presented the British Empire Medal (BEM) to Mr Gordon Burgis in a formal ceremony at Government House on Friday 3rd July.

Mr Burgis was awarded the BEM in the New Years Honours List for services to Jersey’s sailing community.

Memories were celebrated at Government House last week as Jersey marked 70 years of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. His Excellency and Lady Kyd were delighted to attend this event.

His Excellency presented Luka Ramage (15) the Mitch Couriard plaque for exceptional voluntary service, he praised the teenager for his dedication, Chairman Mike Entwistle explained that Luka also acts as a carer for his siblings, ensuring their school attendance and preparing their meals among other things.

The message, echoed throughout the afternoon, was that while the equipment and routes may change over time, the values of resilience, teamwork and determination that have defined the Duke of Edinburgh's Award for 70 year remain as relevant as ever.
