🏃‍♀️ And that’s race complete!

A huge well done to Cristina for completing today’s race in memory of our former colleague and friend, Elvis Vieira.

Elvis was a much-loved member of the Honorary Police family, and today’s run was a fitting tribute to his life, service, and the positive impact he had on so many people.

Thank you to everyone who offered their support, encouragement, and kind words throughout the race. Your support means a great deal and helps keep Elvis’s memory alive.

One race down… now onto the next one! 💙

Running in Memory of Elvis Vieira

This Sunday, 14th June, Cristina Nistor - an Officer from the Honorary Police of St Helier will be taking part in the Canaccord Half Marathon, followed by the Durrell 13K Race on 13th July, in memory of fellow officer Elvis Vieira.

These races are about far more than running. They are an opportunity to honour Elvis, who sadly passed away following a brave two-and-a-half-year battle with a brain tumour.

Elvis was a devoted father, a valued colleague, and a genuinely kind person who always put others before himself. He cared deeply about his fellow officers, their families, and the community he proudly served. His loss continues to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

To mark his memory, Elvis’s photograph will be worn on the runner’s vest, symbolically accompanying him on one final journey around some of the places across our Island that Elvis knew and loved. Every mile will be run as a tribute to a man who touched so many lives and made a lasting difference to those around him.

If you see Cristina wearing Elvis’s photograph during either race, please take a moment to remember him. For those who knew him, reflect on the kindness, friendship and dedication he showed throughout his life and service.

Life is precious, and Elvis’s story serves as a reminder that, for some, the finish line comes far too soon. These races are a fitting tribute to his memory and an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact that brain tumours have on individuals and families.

Rest in peace, Elvis. You were one of a kind and will never be forgotten. ❤️

🚗 Check Your Driving Licence Before You Drive! 🚗

Did you know that driving with an expired driving licence can be an offence, just the same as driving without holding a valid licence?

We are reminding all motorists to take a few moments to check the expiry date on their driving licence and ensure that their details remain up to date.

✅ Check your licence expiry date
✅ Ensure your address details are correct (where required)
✅ Renew your licence before it expires
✅ Keep your documents in order

Many drivers only realise their licence has expired when they are stopped by Police, involved in a collision, or need to produce their documents. Human beings are remarkably capable of remembering a takeaway menu from 2019 whilst forgetting a document that permits them to operate a tonne of metal at speed.

Driving is a privilege that comes with legal responsibilities. Taking a minute to check your licence today could save you unnecessary inconvenience and potential prosecution tomorrow.

Please take a moment to check your licence and encourage family and friends to do the same.

🚗 Keeping St Helier Safe Starts With The Simple Things

St Helier remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit. Thankfully, most vehicle crime remains opportunistic, which means a few simple steps can make a huge difference in preventing it. Human beings continue their proud tradition of making life easier for criminals by leaving cars unlocked with valuables on display. Let’s try not to assist the opposition.

A few quick reminders for motorists:

🔐 Always lock your vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for a minute.

🔑 Never leave keys inside the vehicle or in an obvious nearby location.

📱 Remove valuables such as phones, wallets, handbags, laptops and shopping bags from sight.

🚘 Close windows and sunroofs before leaving your vehicle unattended.

🏠 If parked at home, keep vehicle keys stored securely and out of view.

👀 Before walking away, take a moment to check your vehicle is actually locked.

Most thefts from vehicles are preventable and taking a few extra seconds can save a great deal of inconvenience later.

Thank you to everyone who already takes these simple precautions and helps keep St Helier a safe community for all.
