𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚…

A number of serious cases have concluded this week, with offenders receiving significant custodial sentences.

Matthew Sidney Chmielinski has been sentenced to a total of 3 years and 9 months’ imprisonment for a series of violent attacks.

Jamie Steven Lagadu has been sentenced to 6 and a half years’ imprisonment for his role in a large-scale co***ne operation.

A 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in youth detention after admitting a series of offences involving knives.

Last week, nine drink‑drive offenders were convicted in a single week, highlighting the continued risks on our roads and the importance of enforcement.

As Chief Officer Robin Smith said:
“Nine drink-driving convictions in a single week is unacceptable.
In just a matter of days, the courts have imposed over 15 years of driving disqualifications and £5,000 in fines, alongside custodial sentences and community penalties.”

Taken together, these cases represent over 12 years of custodial sentences, alongside more than 15 years of driving disqualifications handed down by the courts, this is a clear message that offending in Jersey has consequences.

But what isn’t always visible is the work behind these outcomes.

Cases represent months of dedicated policing, from the first report, to gathering evidence, supporting victims, and building strong case files that stand up in court.

Jersey is a safe place to live and work.
But that safety doesn’t happen by chance.

It is built through the commitment, professionalism and persistence of our officers and staff, often long before a case ever reaches a courtroom.

Thank you to everyone involved, your work makes a difference every day.

Jersey, please don't drink and drive, this bank holiday is looking glorious but it's just not worth it - Get home safe.
.. and don't forget, we're recruiting for Police Constables who want to start their policing career. Check out SOJP's website to find out more - application deadline 2 June.
