Ana Goodwin, our Substance Misuse Officer, held the first SAFER (Substance Awareness Focus & Recovery Group) group last week at Probation Services. SAFER is a structured, evidence-informed support intervention designed to help individuals build awareness around substance use, develop healthier coping strategies, and strengthen their personal recovery journey.

The programme is delivered in a weekly group session over 9 weeks, providing a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn, reflect, and share experiences.

Following the 9 week group component, each participant receives a 1-to-1 personalised session to co-create a personalised safety plan and a relapse prevention plan.

The SAFER programme aims to equip participants with the knowledge insight, and tools needed to make safer choices, promote recovery, and support long-term wellbeing.

Jersey Probation Service has recently joined the Safe Places scheme with support from our colleagues at Building a Safer Community

By registering as a Safe Place, we are now part of an Island-wide network of organisations that offer immediate help and reassurance to anyone who feels vulnerable, or at risk in the community.

Displaying our Safe Places sticker and being listed on their app means that people in need can turn to us for a safe environment, a listening ear or practical support.

Jersey Probation Service Welcomes Latvian Delegation to Share Best Practice.

Earlier this month, the Jersey Probation Service hosted four senior representatives from the Latvian Probation Service as part of an international knowledge exchange. Led by Inna Grinevica, Senior Project Manager, the Latvian delegation visited Jersey to learn more about innovative approaches to rehabilitation and reducing reoffending.

During their stay, the delegates shadowed Jersey officers in client interviews and participated in a joint workshop led by Jersey managers. The workshop focused on developing and applying key supervision skills, drawing on research to which Jersey has contributed. This research demonstrates a strong link between highly skilled probation officers and lower reoffending rates.

The Latvian team described the visit as “extremely valuable” and confirmed plans to adopt a similar skills-based approach within their own service.
Chief Probation Officer Mike Cutland said:
“We were delighted to share our experience and learn from our Latvian colleagues. Collaboration like this strengthens probation practice internationally and ultimately benefits the communities we serve.”

The Jersey Family Justice Council want to hear from parents and carers who have experienced family court proceedings to help learn more about what worked, what didn’t work, and what needs to be done to improve.

If you have previously been in family court proceedings and these have finished, it would help the JFJC if you could fill in this short survey via the link or QR code. You can also ask for a paper copy by contacting JFCAS or JFJC, if you prefer.
