The States Meeting has adjourned and will reconvene on Monday 29 June for the appointment of the Council of Ministers and Chairs of PPC and Scrutiny.

The King, on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, has been pleased to approve the appointment of Advocate Victoria Catharine Bell to the office of His Majesty’s Solicitor General of Jersey in succession of the previous Solicitor General, Mr Matthew Jowitt KC who succeeded Mr Mark Temple KC as His Majesty’s Attorney General.

Advocate Bell was educated at Jersey College for Girls, and the University of Exeter where she read English before converting to Law. In 2009 she was admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and in 2016 as an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey. She has worked at the Law Officers’ Department since 2009, being made Senior Legal Adviser in 2024.

There is only one candidate, Senator Lyndon Farnham.

Senator Farnham will give a 10-minute speech and face questions from Members.

One re-elected States Members has put their name forward for the position of Chief Minister:

• Senator-elect Lyndon Farnham

The Chief Minister will be elected at the first States Meeting next Friday 19 June, where they will be Chief Minister designate until the Council of Ministers is elected on Monday 29 June. After this all Ministers (including the Chief Minister) will formally take up their positions.

A new petition has been launched by a member of the public: 'Put air-conditioning throughout the whole Jersey General Hospital building.'

Petitions with 5,000+ signatures may be considered for debate by the States Assembly, which may lead to a change in the law.

There is not sufficient air-conditioning in the General Hospital. This creates an unsafe environment for both staff and patients and it needs to be changed.
