Dedicated support is now available to help children and young people in Jersey with physical health conditions who are now feeling anxiety, worry, or low in mood.

The support is available through children's wellbeing practitioners, who have a focus on listening, understanding and caring.

During the sessions, the young person can:

✅ Talk about what's been difficult for them
✅ Work to find ways to feel better
✅ Set goals for where they want to be and make a plan to get there

If eligible, you can access between six and eight sessions via phone or video call, each lasting 45 minutes. It's a safe space to talk, get support, and work on feeling better while managing a physical health condition. 💛

The support is known as the LUCY Project and is being provided through Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS and Charity.

If you are a young person or know a young person with a physical health condition who is feeling worried, anxious, or has low mood about a physical health condition then find out more about the LUCY Project and how to self-refer:

Our Mockingbird Spring Forums are in full swing 🌼

Across England, we’re bringing together 400+ hub home carers and liaison workers to connect, learn, and explore this season’s theme: Identity & Belonging.

A highlight from our Sheffield Forum? Mockingbird liaison worker and Traitors star Judy joined us and shared how her TV experience has given her a powerful platform to talk about adoption and fostering. Her honesty was a reminder that none of us have it all figured out, and that’s exactly why these spaces matter. 💛

We also heard from Maz, who has supported over 300 children in 45 years of fostering, and is heading to the King’s Garden Party in recognition of her incredible impact 👏

We love creating space for our community to share stories, build relationships, and celebrate the life-changing work happening every day. Thank you to everyone involved!

This is a real-life testament to how much one person can change the way a child builds relationships after trauma.

Tina, Cheyenne’s foster carer, has remained in Cheyenne’s heart throughout her life. Her care, consistency, and love clearly left a lasting imprint.

It’s so beautiful to see that, as an adult, you can look back and recognise the people who were there when it truly mattered. The people who helped you feel safe, valued, and cared for.

I’ve posted about Tina previously but it’s so important that people know the difference fostering a child can do 🫶🏼 If you’ve ever considered fostering a child, please take a moment to read this. Growing up, my siblings and I faced many challenges with our main caregiver. There were stru...

International Women’s Day | Celebrating Our Foster Carers

Sunday is International Women’s Day, we pause to honour the extraordinary women who open their hearts and homes to children who need them most. Among them is Melissa Harris, one of our remarkable foster carers.

Melissa is a single foster carer, a devoted mother to her two biological children, and a safe, consistent presence for two teenagers in her care. Alongside this, she runs her own thriving beauty business—one grounded in empowerment, body positivity, and self-belief. Through both her personal and professional life, Melissa leads by example, showing what it truly means to be a strong, independent woman with compassion at her core.

What stands out most about Melissa is her balance: resilience paired with softness; determination anchored in kindness. It is this equilibrium that makes her not only an exceptional foster carer, but an inspiration.

On days like today, I am reminded that Melissa represents so many women across our fostering community. I see it in the quiet, unseen moments—the foster carer pulling on her nurse’s uniform at dawn, securing a baby seat, managing childminder drop-offs, and holding together the needs of her household and her children before the day has truly begun. I see it when I step into a foster home and witness a foster baby seamlessly woven into family life, supported through instinctive teamwork and deep care that makes the complex appear effortless.

I also see it in foster families who challenge traditional expectations entirely. In one home, the woman works as a bank manager while her partner takes on the majority of the daily childcare responsibilities. Together, they lead from a place of flexibility, mutual respect, and non-judgement—adapting roles, defying assumptions, and making fostering work against the odds through understanding and unity.

These women—and the families who stand beside them—carry immense responsibility. They hold trauma with tenderness, provide stability amid uncertainty, and give love without condition, all while navigating careers, family life, and the emotional labour that fostering quietly demands.

While we are deeply grateful for the invaluable contribution of our male foster carers, today we intentionally shine a light on the women whose strength, adaptability, and compassion sit at the heart of fostering.

Today, and every day, we celebrate you.
Thank you for all that you give.
We see you.

✨ Foster Carer Celebration Evening ✨

On Saturday 13th December, we held a Foster Carer Celebration — a truly special evening filled with laughter, warmth and heartfelt moments.

We were honoured to be joined by our guest speaker Sarah Dillon, who delivered a deeply touching and powerful talk about her lived experience of foster care. Now a renowned author, Sarah has helped influence and rewrite fostering policies and structures across the world. Her honest and moving speech on therapeutic parenting resonated with so many in the room and touched hearts through its reality and sentiment.

The evening was beautifully accompanied by Emily Faye, whose stunning musical set created a perfect atmosphere and added to the magic of the night.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our foster carers — for the time, love and commitment they give, and for the stability, security and care they provide to children every single day.

💛 Thank you for all that you do.

🎄Merry Christmas 🎄
