We have managed to release some but only to gardens where we are sure there is food and water provided every night and plenty of shady places to nest. We can't keep them in captivity in the breeding season, that would not be ethical, even though it is so dry out there with little natural food available. It is different in winter when the ground is hard from frost, then they would not be breeding and it is fairer to keep them in care for longer until the weather improves.

These are the 2 juveniles we have admitted this afternoon, both very skinny and dehydrated. If you want hedgehogs to survive into the autumn please please put out bowls of water on the ground for them and shallow dishes of cat or dog food if you possibly can. The few spots of rain this afternoon did absolutely nothing, everything is bone dry, there is nothing out there for them to eat or drink unless you provide it.

We are extremely grateful to D B Cummins Ltd for demolishing our old incinerator free of charge. We can now use the area with a concrete base to store other things. Our waste is now being collected by St Helier twice a week free of charge and we are also very grateful to Pentagon for giving us a discount when we purchased 2 Eurobins.

Yet another hedgehog put to sleep this morning with a nose wound caused by a blade, you can see the cut spines on her head which are recent because the ends are still white. We tried to keep her going for a couple of days because she was eating until last night. The nose was shredded there was no way it could be stitched or would heal up on its own. PLEASE TAKE CARE BEFORE YOU STRIM, CUT OR MOW, CHECK FOR WILDLIFE FIRST
