We know that some members of our Portuguese and Madeiran community don’t always find it easy to speak English, and that can make it harder to ask for help with fire safety concerns at home.

One of our Portuguese-speaking firefighters, Marcos Ferreira, is here to help.

You can reach him by email at: [email protected], and he will contact you to provide advice and will perhaps arrange to visit you in your home.

You can find our fire safety guide in Portuguese on our website here: https://bit.ly/4uAex6I

Please see this important update from our colleagues at Infrastructure and Environment - I&E about emergency roadworks on Stopford Road.

Please follow their page for further updates.

Our team is dealing with an emergency roadwork issue at Stopford Road. We're aware this is causing delays to traffic and the team is working quickly to try and resolve this - however it is expected to continue past 6pm tonight.

The issue is believed to be caused by some voids under the road surface caused by the natural strata falling away.

Diversions are currently in place, please avoid the area if possible.

🚒🔥 Training 🔥🚒

Please note we are carrying out live fire training today at Oaklands Lodge Trinity. There may be small amounts of smoke, but nothing to be alarmed about. This type of training ensures our crews are exposed to the most realistic conditions possible.

Training and learning never stops!

And, as our photos show - sometimes our colleagues get to sharpen their skills in some unusual locations.....

Last week, on-call firefighters took part in tactical firefighting training at the soft play area within Fort Regent.

The exercise formed part of Breathing Apparatus (BA) air management training and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) awareness, providing valuable opportunities to develop operational skills alongside teamwork and crew cohesion.

A thank you is extended to Crew Commander O’Donoghue, Crew Commander Le Brun, Firefighter Le Flem, and Watch Commander Keating for their leadership and support during the session.

A big thank you, too, to Fort Regent for allowing us to use the venue.

Today we said farewell and a massive Thank You to L*z Ballingall for all the hard work and dedication shown working for The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, both as a Retained Firefighter and more recently as our Support Officer, ensuring the front line teams had what we needed to deliver our service. We wish you and your family the very best and hope you get a chance to enjoy a well earned retirement, however, you might want to turn your phone off as I’m sure you’ll still get called when we need something! Take care L*z & Thanks again 🚒

⚠️ Safety reminder for this weekend.

This week, we have attended two bin fires due to disposable BBQs being disposed of before they have cooled down.

Incidents like this are avoidable. To prevent bin fires from BBQs, please follow this guidance.

If you’re using a disposable BBQ:

- Allow it to cool completely
- Douse with water where possible
- Dispose of it safely once cold
❌ Do not place a hot BBQ in a bin

At home:

- Use BBQs outdoors, on level ground and away from buildings
- Never leave unattended
- Keep water or sand nearby

Please watch the video for guidance on safe disposal and help keep everyone safe.
