For generations, when Jamaica got it wrong, many of our people could look abroad for opportunity. Today, that option is narrowing. Across the globe, countries are tightening their borders and adopting more restrictive immigration policies.

At the very same time, many Jamaicans are losing confidence in public institutions and withdrawing from the democratic process because they do not see government delivering at the level required.

These two realities are converging into one unavoidable truth: Jamaica has to get it right.

We cannot rely on migration as a safety valve. We must build a country that works, a government that delivers, and an economy that creates opportunity for all. The future of our people depends on it. Jamaica has to get it right.

How do we prepare Jamaica for a future driven by technology, innovation, and digital transformation?

Tomorrow, Christopher Brown, MP, Opposition Spokesperson on Science, Technology & Digital Transformation, will present his contribution to the 2026 Sectoral Debate, exploring how Jamaica can harness technology to improve lives, expand opportunities, and strengthen national development.

Building Jamaica's future means ensuring that technology works for people, drives growth, and leaves no one behind.

We are about to start the rehabilitation and road improvement project of the Gibbs Hill Road under the Spark Program. Today I toured the area, while engaging the residents who are extremely pleased. Next, we will be proceeding to the Belfield Pen Road beginning with the laying of pipes, then yes, Brainerd, where I know the residents are anxiously awaiting that long overdue project. We have also received the work order for the Clarke Castle Road in the Richmond Division thereafter. Over the last few months I have been engaging the NWA, and the Ministry of Works and we are now ready.

Today was a great day for education in Southeast St. Mary. This morning, I partnered with BookZone Publishers in handing over $500k worth of books in literacy, numeracy, sciences, and other key subject areas to schools across the constituency. I was happy to welcome principals from our primary, infant, and high schools to receive these resources on behalf of their students. In this fast-changing world of AI, digital media, and rapid technological advancement, it is critical that we equip our children with the tools they need to succeed, uplift their families, and help build a “betta” South East St. Mary and a stronger Jamaica. Big thanks to the team at BookZone Publishers for partnering with us to invest in our children and their future.

These are excerpts from my interaction with the former chairman of the University Hospital of the West Indies Board during yesterday's meeting of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament. In my line of questioning, ! examined aspects of the former chairman's written submission, which outlined a series of events surrounding the process to appoint a new CEO. According to his own submission, the recruitment of a new CEO was regarded as the greatest imperative of the board he led following his appointment by the Minister of Health. He also outlined the circumstances under which he resigned, following the Minister's alleged actions in relation to the appointment and subsequent reappointment of an acting CEO for the Hospital.
