The Caribbean Blue Justice Hub and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) convened a Blue Justice Workshop in Dominica on April 29–30, 2026, bringing together regional counterparts from Barbados, Grenada, and Jamaica.

Remarks were delivered by the Honourable Jullan Defoe, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Blue and Green Economy of Dominica with responsibility for Fisheries and Blue Economy and Mr. Ryan Anselm, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Blue and Green Economy of Dominica. Dr. Zahra Oliphant, Principal Director of the Fisheries Compliance, Licensing and Statistics Division at the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) was also in attendance.

The two-day workshop focused on strengthening regional dialogue on legislation and prosecution in support of Blue Justice efforts.

The NFA urges anyone who comes into possession of more than 15kg of spiny lobster, as a result of trade during the close season, to notify the NFA about this within seven days of coming into possession of the spiny lobster.

A Fishery Inspector can seize any spiny lobster that was not declared or the NFA was not notified about.

The National Fisheries Authority in coloboration with officially launched our first mariculture pilot project at Bowden Harbour! We’re moving from the reefs to offshore cages to farm red drum, which is a sustainable, high-quality protein source for our nation.

The NFA urges anyone who comes into possession of more than 15kg of spiny lobster as a result of trade during the close season to notify the NFA about this within seven days of coming into possesion of the spiny lobster.

A Fishery Inspector may seize any spiny lobster that was not declared by April 8th or the NFA was not notified about.

The National Fisheries Authority urges anyone in possession of lobster that was fished during the open season to follow these steps and submit a declaration by April 8, 2026.
