: Education & Training

We share a special 'Happy Teachers Day' shoutout to our Education & Training team.

If you joined us to learn JSL you probably know one or two of these faces. See anyone you know?

This team helps to bring JSL to the public, supports our school staff with JSL and Deaf education training and resources, and executes annual literacy and numeracy assessments throughout our schools.

Happy Teacher's Day to our teams across the JAD schools!

Respect starts with using the right terminology! Watch and learn signs for the correct terms to use when referring to the Deaf community.

βœ… Deaf
βœ… Hard of hearing
❌ Hearing impaired
❌ Handicap
❌ Dumb
❌ Mute

Let’s promote awareness and respect for the Deaf community.

Step 1: get a hearing assessment done
Step 2: discuss your options with a hearing healthcare professional at JADHS.

Whether the discussion is about hearing conservation (noise reduction), amplification (a hearing aid), or referral to support (school placement, JSL learning, or parent engagement), it all starts with a hearing test.

Remember JADHS has a special discount until May 2026 for children aged 1 to 15 years. Contact the team to book your appointment today.

With support from the COPE Initiative, JAD recently hosted our Work Readiness Training Programme for upcoming school leavers from Schools for the Deaf across Jamaica.
Robust interactive presentations by the HEART/NSTA Trust Career Development Support Services Unit, the National Insurance Scheme of Jamaica, University of Technology Jamaica Student Services Unit, and the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities, along with engagement with Work Experience personnel, provided students with valuable guidance and on-the-spot support as they prepare to transition into the world of work.
Through this collaborative effort, students received practical insights, career guidance, and encouragement to confidently take their next steps toward employment and independence. πŸŒŸπŸ“šπŸ€

If you're interested (even if you don't quite feel ready) to engage Deaf persons in your organisation, contact us. We're ready to help you.
