It's International Mountain Day 🏔️ !

Annually as of 2003, December 11th is celebrated as International Mountain Day designated by the United Nations General Assembly.

Mountains are a vital part of our ecosystems and are greatly beneficial to humans. The aim of the day is to spread awareness of the importance of mountains; highlight threats to these wonderful ecosystems and promote their sustainable development.

NHMJ commemorates the day with students of the Kingston Technical High School's Environment Club with a presentation and painting activity of a mountain.

Our island's mountains are biodiversity hotspots providing a rich habitat for our endemic and native plants and animals. They also consist of our forest reserves, national parks and cultural heritage sites.
