May 5 is Read Across Jamaica Day, and this year we’re encouraging Jamaicans across the island to come together and participate in a read aloud activity.

Whether at school, in your workplace, or within your community, reading aloud creates meaningful connections while helping to build stronger vocabulary, improve comprehension, boost confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading, especially among young learners.

Together, let’s share stories, spark imagination, and create moments that inspire a stronger reading culture across Jamaica.

As Jamaica continues to rebuild, we are reminded that strengthening our nation goes beyond physical infrastructure—it begins with our people.

State Minister Hon. Rhoda Moy Crawford, MP highlights the importance of reading as a tool for resilience, imagination, and national development.

The National Reading Competition, led by the Jamaica Library Service, is more than a programme—it is a movement to uplift individuals, families, and communities across the island.

Families that read together grow together.
Communities that read together thrive together.

Let us continue building Jamaica’s future—one reader at a time.

Together We Read. Together We Rise.
