The Investment Fair serves as a major international platform for investment promotion and commercial
cooperation.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on September 3, Senior Reporter and poet Garfield L. Angus presented Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith🇯🇲, with a framed copy of his original poem, Out of Many, One Global Family: The Diaspora Rise.

The work is a tribute to Jamaica’s global family and to the many ways members of the Diaspora continue to contribute to national life. Through rhyme, rhythm and Jamaican expression, Angus moves from remittances and investment to culture, service, diplomacy and belonging, presenting the Diaspora not as a distant community, but as an active part of Jamaica’s story.

In this piece, Jamaican language is part of the creative force. Words from the Jamaican vernacular do more than add flavour; they give the poem its pulse. The language carries memory, familiarity and belonging, while references to the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council, the Youth Council and the wider Jamaican family anchor the work in the institutions and relationships that connect Jamaicans across generations and borders.

Minister Johnson Smith, in receiving the tribute on behalf of Jamaicans at home and abroad, expressed appreciation to Mr. Angus for what she described as a thoughtful gesture to Jamaica’s Diaspora. She says the creative piece captures, in a distinctly Jamaican voice, the strength of the connection between home and our global family.

Nearly five decades after UNICEF established its first Caribbean Area Office in Jamaica, the partnership continues to evolve around a shared priority of improving the lives and prospects of children.

Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith🇯🇲, today (September 3) warmly welcomed UNICEF Country Representative, Mr. Osama Makkawi Khogali, who presented his Letter of Introduction. Their discussion reflected on Jamaica’s longstanding partnership with UNICEF and how that collaboration can continue to help ensure that children are better protected, supported through periods of vulnerability and equipped with the opportunities and services they need to thrive.

Against this backdrop, Minister Johnson Smith congratulated Mr. Khogali on his appointment and reaffirmed Jamaica’s commitment to close collaboration with UNICEF throughout his tour of duty, with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information continuing to play a central role in advancing policies, systems and services that improve outcomes for children.

As Kingston and Rome continue to advance shared priorities across the bilateral agenda, Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith🇯🇲 this morning welcomed Italy’s Ambassador-designate to Jamaica, Mr. Marco Peronaci, who presented his Copy Letters of Credence.

During their discussions, Minister Johnson Smith extended a warm welcome and expressed Jamaica’s interest in further strengthening ties and advancing the bilateral agenda. Among the areas discussed were expanded cooperation in security, energy, culture and climate change. The engagement builds on recent exchanges with Italy, following Minister Johnson Smith’s bilateral talks with Italy’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Massimo Dell’Ultri, on the margins of the 56th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly in Panama City in June.

Ambassador-designate Peronaci is expected to present his Letters of Credence to His Excellency the Governor-General, formally accrediting him as Italy’s Ambassador to Jamaica.

Against a global environment marked by uncertainty and complex challenges, Foreign Minister and Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith🇯🇲, says regional cooperation remains essential, particularly for small states that cannot secure their interests acting alone. She was speaking yesterday (September 1), at the 48th Regional Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic (CAA) Region, in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

Her contribution to disucssions on the role of parliamentarians in regional cooperation and diplomacy, reflected on how Parliaments can complement the work of governments and Foreign Ministries by helping to build understanding, support the implementation of international commitments and strengthen the relationships that underpin cooperation. She pointed to parliamentary debate, friendship groups and regional networks as practical avenues for deepening engagement across borders

She also encouraged Parliamentarians to connect regional cooperation more closely to the issues citizens experience every day, including trade and investment, the movement of skills and services, climate resilience, food security and citizen safety. She noted that this can help build greater understanding of, and support for, regional priorities at the national and community levels.

The Conference brought together Parliamentarians from across the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region. Minister Johnson Smith joined President of the Senate, Senator the Honourable , as a co-panellist in a discussion deftly moderated by Senator .
