Labour Day Parish Project 2026. Renovation of the Ellen Street Community Center

Restored, Ready , and Resilient

Labour Day 2026 was celebrated on Monday May 25 under the theme: One People, One Purpose; In All Things. Jamaica Wins with a focus on sports and community development.

The Ellen Street Community Center was selected as one of this year's Labour Day Project -and the timing could not be more important.

The team from the Engineering & Technical Services Branch rolled up their sleeves alongside volunteers from the Jamaica Public Servuce Company, Chamber of Commerce, Forestry Department, and dedicated community members to bring the space back to life.

Activities include: bushing of compound, renovation and painting of building, removal of wasp infestation, and partitioning of bathroom facility.

As the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaches, the Ellen Street Cimmumity Center will also serve as a designated shelter - making its rehabilitation not just a community investment, but a lifesaving one.

LABOUR DAY 2026 No one gets left behind. Giving back to those who nèed it most.

Indigent house at New Pond, Mile Gully was one of the Parish Projects selected for this year's Labour Day. The team from the Engineering and Technical Services Branch along with the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the Mile Gully Division, Rohan Kennedy alongside volunteers and community members showed up and transformed the home from the inside out.

Every stroke of the brush, every door hung, every ceiling fitted, every nail hammered is a reminder that service is at the heart of what we do and that the most vulnerable members of our communities deserve dignity, comfort and care.
