ROAD IMPROVEMENT IN BATTLE ROAD, WELCOME HALL DIVISION....

The St. James Municipal Corporation's mission to improve the road network in the parish recently stopped in the Welcome Hall Division, which is represented by Councillor Martin Kellier.

Improvements are now evident along the New Battle Road in the Division, courtesy of financial support from the Parochial Revenue Fund allocated to the Welcome Hall Division.

WORLD NO TO***CO DAY:

"Unmasking the appeal-Countering ni****ne and to***co addiction ", the theme for World No To***co Day.

A ceremony in observation of the day, May 29, 2026, took place in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay where Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Dwight Crawford made a presentation.

Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Dwight Crawford on Friday May 29, 2026 participated in the launch of the Park Walker Inniative at Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay.

The inniative, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, is aimed at getting older adults to participate in physical activities as part of their daily routine.

In his address, Councillor Crawford congratulated those involved in the inniative, which he said will be a game changer in improving health and wellness among senior citizens.

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jnr., also addressed the ceremony.

SUPPORTING EDUCATION:

The St. James Municipal Corporation on Thursday May 28, 2026, hosted grade 5 students from Whitter's Institute and Preparatory School for an educational session and tour.

The eager students exhibited serious interest in the role and function of the Corporation, asking several questions, as they prepare for their upcoming examination.

After a very interactive session, the students were taken on an abridged tour of the Corporation's offices, where they met and spoke with officers and Councillor Javin Baker.

At the end, the group expressed the view that the tour was very educational, and will assist them as they prepare for the next step of their education journey.

Councillor for the Montego Bay West Division, Damion Brown was on hand at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Wednesday May 28, 2026, to celebrate with hundreds of long serving employees of the National Solid Waste Management Authority-WPM and NEPM regions.

At the long service awards ceremony, NSWMA honored employees for their service in the categories of SILVER (15 to 19 years), GOLD (20 to 24 years) , DIAMOND (25 to 29 years) and PLATINUM (30 years and over).

Councillor Brown, who was representing His Worship the Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon, who was unavoidably absent, expressed pleasure that NSWMA was honouring the SUPERSTARS of WPM and NEPM while these recepients are alive and well.

The ceremony was also attended by Executive Director of NSWMA, Audley Gordon, MP for St. James Central, Heroy Clarke, MP for Western Hanover Heatha Miller, as well as the Executive Director of the Tourism Enhancement Fund, Dr. Carey Wallace, who was the keynote speaker.

The Mount Alvernia Dance Group was among those who provided entertainment.
