In case you weren’t aware the coordination team of Portland environmental Action has been very busy- researching- demanding information from public bodies and putting together a court action.

JaBBEM and PEA are taking Blue Hole Holdings, JNHT, the PMC to court to demand clarity on who closed the public road and why, but MORE importantly to establish unfettered public access- as is our right in law- to the BLue Lagoon for all time.

SIX individuals are standing as plaintiffs to testify in court that the public have had access to the BLue Lagoon for over 20 years- most can remember to thier childhoods - so actually historically a long time! Please this is how you can show your support- financial donation to cover costs go to JABBEM.

Please show up and bring others to the court house on Monday 6th November 10am.

This has been a lot of work, we are very greatful for the support of JABBEM who are fighting for beach access for all Jamaicans. Tourism cannot thrive without ordinary Jamaicans being involved. It can no longer remain a tax evading, starvation wages leach on Jamaican society. Please join with us and let’s demand our rights in law.

We demand prosperity for all Jamaicans not just the CEOs of AI’s!

When the Portland Environmental Action group and JABBEM reopened the Blue Lagoon on June1ST 2023 representatives of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust welcomed the Public through so called private property and not by way of Blue Hole Road the public entrance to the Lagoon.

At that time the Public was told by JNHT the entrance was temporary to enable them to complete infrastructure work on the improved facilities.

Today fourteen months after San San Home owners association, Jamaica National Heritage Trust, Tourism Products Development Co, Portland Municipal Corporation and others destroyed the properties of Blue Lagoon Alliance and closed Blue Hole Road. Their destruction included Bamboo rafts, vending stalls and other structures used to create their livelihood the Public Blue Hole Road remain illegally blocked.

Portland Environmental Action group and Jabbem believe the initial closure of the Blue Lagoon was an attempt to Privatize the section of the that leads to the Blue Lagoon thereby cutting off this National monument from the public.

On Monday November 6th 2023 Portland Environmental Action group will support members of the public who have filed Action in the Portland Parish Court to immediately order the reopening of Blue Hole Road and allow free and unfettered Public access to the Blue Lagoon among other public relief in the Lawsuit.

Blue Lagoon Preservation order Extended to December.

ENVIRONMENT JUNE 14, 2012

Cabinet has approved the extension of the preservation notice over the Blue Lagoon site in Portland for a further six months, from June to December 2012.

Making the announcement at the Jamaica House press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on June 13, Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, explained that the notice has been placed by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT), as it intends to declare the site a national monument.

She informed that within the period of the extension of the preservation order, the JNHT will declare the Blue Lagoon a national monument, complete the sustainable management plan for the area, and the preservation scheme.

The Trust will also employ its best efforts in supporting and facilitating the declaration of a craft village by the Portland Parish Council; establish a management entity to oversee and coordinate the activities within the protected area; establish sanitary facilities; complete the registration of the Blue Lagoon Alliance; and continue with the public education programme relating to the area.

The Blue Lagoon is a natural lagoon, situated some seven miles east of Port Antonio, with depth of approximately 180 feet. The site was originally called the Blue Hole, but following the success of the film ‘The Blue Lagoon’ which was filmed at the location, the site was re-named.
