On 02 September 2026, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman, Gajithra Navan, met with Mohannad Al Bakri, Managing Director of the Royal Film Commission, Jordan, to discuss ways to further enhance cultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan.

During the meeting, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. proposed organizing a Sri Lankan Film Day in Jordan. Al Bakri welcomed the proposal and agreed to extend the Commission’s support for organizing the event in Amman or Irbid.

Both sides also discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, particularly in the film industry, including the possibility of future joint initiatives and exchanges.

Ahmad Al-Khatib, Communications and Cultural Manager, Seif Kilany, and the Translator of the Embassy also participated in the meeting.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan Conducts an Awareness Programme on Safe and Legal Migration

For the third consecutive year, as part of the Embassy’s continued efforts to promote safe and legal migration among the Sri Lankan community in Jordan, the Embassy successfully conducted an awareness programme at the Embassy premises, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community and representatives of garment factories in Jordan on 21 August 2026.

In her opening remarks, Gajithra Navan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., welcomed the participants and highlighted the valuable contribution made by the Sri Lankan migrant workers to the country’s economic development, particularly through remittances. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. encouraged the Sri Lankan community to pursue safe and legal migration, respect the laws and regulations of Jordan, and maintain valid passports and residence and work permits.

The programme included comprehensive presentations on human smuggling and trafficking and safe migration by the Counsellor, SLBFE (Employment & Welfare), G.R.S. Gunawardana, and on consular functions by H.P. Liyanage, Consular Officer of the Embassy.

An interactive question and answer session allowed participants to seek clarification on matters relating to labour welfare, protection, safe migration, and consular services.

Following the programme, the Embassy officials provided special consular assistance to needy Sri Lankan nationals.

The programme reaffirmed the Embassy’s continued commitment to protecting the welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers and strengthening consular support and services for the Sri Lankan community in Jordan.

Explores Investment Cooperation between Jordan and Sri Lanka

On 17.08.2026, Gajithra Navan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman, met with Mousa Wakileh, Chairman, and Rami Mansi, Business Development Manager of Ad-Dulayl Industrial Park & Development Zone (IDMC), to discuss opportunities for strengthening industrial and investment cooperation between Jordan and Sri Lanka.

The meeting also explored potential areas for investment, joint ventures, and business collaboration, with a view to further enhancing economic ties between the two countries.
