The Saberhawks of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 77 fly the Navy’s most advanced helicopter, the MH-60R. Established in 1987 as HSL-47 in San Diego, California, the squadron relocated to Atsugi, Japan to join Carrier Air Wing FIVE after participating in numerous operations including Enduring Freedom, New Dawn and Unified Assistance. The Saberhawks conduct an extensive array of missions includ

ing Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Surface Warfare (SUW), Search and Rescue (SAR), Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR).
