Applications for the Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature 2027 are now open.

The British Embassy Tokyo recently celebrated innovative women in STEM at the Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature reception, in collaboration with Sony. The US$250,000 prize recognises groundbreaking work shaping our technological future.

Are you a woman researcher pushing the boundaries of technology? Applications for the 2027 award are now open until 23:59 (GMT) Friday 5 June (08:59 (JST) Saturday 6 June).

「Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature 2027」の応募受付が開始されています。

本賞はSTEM分野で革新的な研究を行う初期・中堅キャリアの女性研究者を称えるグローバルな賞です。選出された3名の受賞者には、それぞれ25万米ドルの賞金が贈呈されるほか、nature.comにて研究成果を紹介する機会が提供されます。

The Foreign Secretary met Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo for the 10th UK–Japan Strategic Dialogue, reinforcing our close cooperation at a crucial time.

Together, they advanced discussions on economic security, supply chain resilience, critical minerals, defence cooperation, and shared responses to challenges including on Iran and Ukraine.

The UK and Japan also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Mutual Assistance to Japanese and British Nationals Abroad - a practical step that strengthens support for our citizens when they need it most.

Tsunami warnings have been lifted but the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a precautionary megaquake alert, meaning there is an increased risk of strong earthquakes occurring in the coming week. Residents and tourists in Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki and Chiba should remain vigilant and follow guidance from local authorities.

Following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake on 20 April, the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a megaquake advisory for the Pacific coast of Japan.

According to JMA, if there is another large-scale earthquake, strong shaking and a large tsunami are expected.

If you are in Japan, monitor local media for updates and follow advice from local and national authorities.
