Ambassador Ahmed Mahloof met with Mr. Hidechika Takasaka, President & CEO of Okura Nikko Hotel Management, and Mr. Masao Taguchi, Executive Advisor of Hotel Okura Co., Ltd., and briefed them on investment opportunities in the Maldives’ hospitality sector, highlighting the Government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Japanese investors.

Had a positive meeting with Mr. Syed Moin, DMD & DCEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, to discuss the possibility of establishing air connectivity between Tokyo and the Maldives.

My sincere thanks to H.E. Mr. Md Daud Ali, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, for facilitating the meeting. We look forward to taking these discussions forward positively and hope to see this potential connection realized in the future.

Met over dinner with senior officials of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) to follow up on our meeting with the JATA President and to exchange views on enhancing collaboration between the Maldives and Japan’s travel industry.

We discussed opportunities and agreed to work closely together to further strengthen our partnership and increase Japanese tourist arrivals to the Maldives. In 2025, the Maldives welcomed 34,352 visitors from Japan, and we look forward to building on this momentum through closer cooperation with the Japanese travel trade.
